Please disregard the previous answers. Travel to Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands from the US mainland does NOT require a passport if you are a US citizen. This has not changed. The only changes have been countries in the Carribean (non-us territory/protectorate ie Haiti, Dom. Rep., Bermuda, Bahamas, etc) Mexico and Canada where you were once able to use a photo ID/birth cert. combination now requires a passport. Because of the passport backlog, however, there is a temporary measure in place allowing you to use ID/birth cert. PLUS you must show that you have applied for a US passport.

No because Puerto Rico is American Terrritory. I live here, so do my son and daughter and they have traveled back and forth from the States so does my husbands family.

ctelly22
No. Puerto Rico is considered a US territory, and a passport is not required to travel to the US or any of it's territories.

It Depends on what Your Immigration Status is!!!

Us Citizen and Legal Residents NO Passport just a State ID is enough...

Visitor in US from another country=You need Your Passport with a Valid Visa...

Puerto Rico and The US Virgin Islands are US territories and do not require passports. I just got back a couple months ago. You do not need them. If you want to go to any other Island then yes but PR you are ok.

No the government recently waived travelling to the caribbean, PR, Mexico, Canada until September 2007 because of the backlog of passport signings.

No you do not since Puerto Rico is considered a territory AKA a colony of the United States, you can also visit the US Virgin Islands while you are down there. Just remember if you want to jaunt over to the Dominican Republic like I allways do when I go, you will need a passport for that as that would be considered leaving the US

hazeltine4
