Do you need a passport to go on a cruise to the Bahamas?

No, No, No! Passports are needed to FLY anywhere outside the U.S. and its territories. Passports will NOT be needed for LAND and SEA travel until a "later" date that has not yet been set , but will be later than next summer. See website below and read top half of page carefully for CURRENT info. Some cruise lines want all their guests to have passports, so it is wise to CALL and ask them their policy.

not really, at least from the US. You can take birth certificate and photo ID. (and marrige certificate for women with last name different from birth cert.) Its just easier to get a passport then taking all those important documents.

You can cruise out of the US without a passport to the Bamahas. It is highly recommended that you have one in case of an emergency and you have to fly back to the US.

Some cruise lines are requiring a passport for US citizens and others are not. Best to call the cruise line you would like to cruise with and ask what their requirements are.

According to this website, passports are not required for US citizens traveling to the Caribbean or Mexico by land or sea. The rules are suppose to change in the summer of 2008 but it may be delayed even later.

Good Luck, even if you don't need a passport, you will need a valid photoID and your birth certificate.)

Based on the following, if you are traveling in 2008, I think the answer is no, but ask your cruise people to be sure.

"All persons entering the United States by aeroplane, including its own citizens, were required to have a passport, even from Canada and Mexico, starting January 23, 2007.

Starting in summer 2009, the passport requirement will also be extended to all sea and land border crossings."

I think you need a passport if you're travelling outside of your country. Be in the safe side and just take it!
