Until December 31, 2006, you can travel to the Dominican Republic without having a passport if you are a US citizen. All that you need is some form of picture ID. Nevertheless, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you have a passport.
Starting January 1st, 2007, a passport will be required of everyone in order to travel back to the U. S. |

this is what the dominican government lists as requirements:DOMINICAN REPUBLIC - Passport is strongly recommended, but tourists may enter with birth certificate and photo ID. A tourist card is required, and can be purchased for $10 at consulate or Dominican airports at entry points. Tourist card permits a legal stay of up to 60 days. For longer stays an extension must be requested at the Migration Department in Santo Domingo. Minors, under 18 years of age, traveling alone, with only one parent, or a third party must present written authorization by the absent parent(s) or legal guardian. This authorization must be notarized at a Dominican Consulate. HIV test required for residence permit. U.S. test not accepted. For specific requirements, consult the Embassy of the Dominican Republic, 1715 22nd St., NW, Washington, DC 20008 (202/332-6280) or nearest Consulate General: AL (334/342-5648), CA (510/864-7777), FL (305/375-9537 or 904/346-0909), HI (808/396-5702), GA (404/572-4814), IL (847/441-1831), LA (504/522-1843), MD (410/560-2101), MA (617/482-8121), MI (248/559-0684), MN (612/339-7566), NY (212/768-2480), PA (215/923-3006), PR (787/833-4756 or 725-9550), or TX (713/266-0165 or 512/224-1345). if you are a u.s citizen you dont really need it but to avoid any problems i recommend you do get one for safety reasons. I have personally traveled to Dom. Rep. without a passport all my life, but last time i did which was recentry i got stopped and questioned by the immigration services...and it wasnt fun at all...i almost missed my plane! They asked me a whole bunch of questions about the united states and luckily i passed them. I did have different ID's and things that proved i am a citizen...but they still decided on asking me these many questions. If you dont travel over there without a passport...bring your birth certificate(of the u.s) if you are a citizen and bring enough proof that you are one. K...bye ;O) |

Depends on your nationality. French people (and other country from europe, canada...) have to got only one identity card for tourism < 3 months. |

Currently all you need is a picture ID and a birth certificate with a raised seal on it. After 2008 you will need a passport. |
