You don't need a passport to travel to the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Guam or any other U.S. possession or protectorate. However, people have always traveled among the Caribbean Islands, coastal South America and Bermuda unimpeded by passport considerations and this has changed. You will have to be very careful not to cross between the U.S. Virgin Islands and the British Virgin Islands, for instance, else you might not be able to get back into the States.
Right now, cruise ships are excepted from the passport rule, so if you go on a Caribbean cruise, you don't have to worry about having a passport, BUT, you must stay with your ship and return to a U.S. port. If you're supposed to fly home from Bermuda, or miss your boat, for instance, you will need a passport to get on a plane bound for the U.S. |

The rules have not changed regarding travel to the US VI. If you are going to the US virgin islands than no you do not need a passport because they are US territories. However if you are going to the British virgin islands than you will need a passport. |

No passport is needed if you are a American citizen. You do NEED your birth certicate with the raised seal and a current photo drivers's license or another picture ID to prove who you are. Getting in is the easy part, it's coming back to the USA that you need proof. So much easier with a passport. Think about getting one.
Have a great trip.) |

No, I dont think so. I've been thinking about this a lot too, b/c im trying to plan my honeymoon..and my fiance suggested that we go to the virgin islands because they are a part of the US, so there is no need to go through the trouble to get a passport. |
