If you'd otherwise need a visa to enter the US, then yes, you do need a visa, even if you're just transiting and not intending to leave the airport. After immigration, you also have to collect your bags, pass through US customs, go out into the public area of the airport, queue to check yourself and your bags in again at the the check-in desks and then go through the whole tedious security procedure again (shoes off, toothpaste in a see-through plastic bag, being barked at by security staff).
If I were you I'd spend the extra you'll have to pay for a visa on paying towards a direct flight to Jamaica from the UK! You'll get there quicker and save yourself the grief of going through all that nonsense after a tiring transatlantic flight. |

Yes, you would still need a visa just to go intransit via the USA. Perhaps if you have INDEFINITE LEAVE TO REMAIN in the U.K. you may be granted the privilege of just intransiting through their ports! Check out the full details with the U.S. Embassy in your part of the U.K. & prepare to explain your full immigration status there in the U.K. |
