Yes. But if you know and trust someone who lives there and knows the island and who is willing to show you around then you'll have a different and real experience compared to just staying in a gated community hotel resort. The hotel resort thing is nice but it's better if you are able to leave the hotel grounds sometimes and see the island; in my opinion.

Yes, it is absolutely beautiful! I went in June to an all-inclusive resort. I would definitely suggest one of the resorts. We stayed at the Rui in Ocho Rios. The staff was great. If you needed anything, they were there in no time at all with extra towels or what ever you needed. We came back to the room each evening with a blanket in the blanket on our bed in the shape of a heart with fresh flowers in the middle. My 8 y/o thought that was so cool.

You don't have to leave the resort for anything. However, if you do decide to go outside the resort, they have people to work with you to schedule the trips (such as to the falls and dolphin cove) so you can get the best deal. There is also driver services you can get (about $8 US per person) to take you into town. They will take you to the stores where you can get the best deals. We purchased rum and rum cream for around $13 a bottle, which was $21 at the resort. Our driver was named Ponytail (nickname of course); and he was wonderful. The shopping trips usually last about two hours (longer if you want, but that was plenty of time to grab gifts to take back home). At the Rui, there is also vendors that come in and set up at the resort. My suggestion is to barter with them. They will give you a price, but you can usually talk them down. If they say $10, offer $7 and they will take it; of course they are trying to get as much as they can when pricing things.

The snorkeling is amazing. So much beauty. The sunsets and watching the sun rise over the ocean is beyond words (definitely something you need to see and experience for yourself). The nightly shows were very entertaining. The only complaint I had was the time went by way too fast. We were there for six nights and it didn't seem like we were there no time and it was time to go.

I think it is an amazing vacation spot; and will definitely be visiting there again soon! Hope you decide to go and enjoy yourself.

yes, i went there a few years ago and stayed at Beaches it was a wonderful trip and that is something coming from me. i didn't think i was going to like it because i was 16 at the time and i was going with a all kinds of kids and adults, but i have a blast. all the people there are really nice and there's allot of stuff to do at the resorts. the only thing i would suggest is that unless you are going with people how have gone there many times i would stay on the resort.

Yes, but stay a few days somewhere other than Negril, Montego Bay or Ocho Rios if you have time. The mentioned places are nice, but get away from the tourist areas for a bit if you can.

ain't going to lie, jamaica is a very nice place to have ur vacation especiality,if u r the type who likes to party, have a lot of fun.

It all depends on what you want. For 75% of all tropical vactioners, a vacation in Jamaica AT LEAST ONCE in thier lifetime would be EXCELLENT.

Just do your research to ensure that you are buying a package that will fulfill your needs. There is exceptional variety in Jamaican tourism from Roots Reggae experiences, to eco-tourism, and the conventional exotic All-Inclusive Beach Resorts. There are 'atypical' travel experiences, like jumping into a rented car and driving from negril to port antonio and back, over 2 days.

As with any vacation, you will want to check with local guides to be aware of any risks. All these trips have differing levels of risk and exposure. With certain precautions, crime is not really a big concern. Adjusting to driving on busy narrow roads is actually a more significant risk than most would anticipate. Jamaica has just as many road hogs as any where else.

WEED is illegal. MANY tourists actually WANT to try a little weed here. The thing is that NOBODY is going to force you to smoke or buy weed. Don't want it? Just leave it alone. Its just one of the many things people will want to sell you whenever you are in public places - traditional sweets, souvenirs, etc.

Is JAMAICA worth it as a vacation? Hell yes. I live here and would still enjoy spending a weekend at some of the more exotic resorts here, or to have the time to do some of the long scenic drives.

yes

The resorts are fabulous!! but we went on a bus ride and the poverty shocked me. many people are living in run down huts and can barely afford the clothes on their backs. there are wild dogs everywhere too. the poor things. but on the contrary if you like a trill then you can hope on a bus in jamaica they drive 90 miles an hour on the opposite side of the road than here in a merica.. its a very nice place within the walls of the resorts.

Don't believe all those happy, smiling people on the adverts for Jamaica... it's small, dirty and dangerous unless all you want to do is stay in the resorts where you can talk AmeriKan. They want to rich AmeriKans who fly in and bring money... they do NOT want people who come in on a cruising sailboat.

You couldn't PAY me to go to Jamaica again... not when there are other REALLY NICE islands to go to nearby.

Inside the resorts its great, unfortunately the poverty outside the gates is not. Too many folks trying to sell weed.
