Do you think Puerto Rico should be a state of the USA?

My opinion, I live in Puerto Rico and I travel a lot , I can said that we are lucky. Puerto Rico don't have to envy anything to the biggest city of the world. We reseve so many benefits from the US ( and they from us, nothing is free) and that make me think the US goverment spend so many money in us and when come the time to give us the choice to choose (the congress and the president have the last word, not us) they going to put all their effort that we come part of the 50 states because they don't what to throw away all that money (or the bad part for us, pay back!!!). If we become a nation (republic) this island became a copy of Cuba in the present and we come back like 50 or 60 years, in here we don't have agriculture (in here no body want to work in there, only the inmigrate like in the states and by the way we have only too division that stay alive with US funds, dairy farm and coffe) our major source of work are the pharmaceuticals (all from the US) and if I follow the list never ends. But I pray that this beautifull island became the state 51.

No. And no one should want this. It is simply unreasonable to think that we owe the US anything and because of that we can't be independent.

Puerto Rico may be small but it is an island full of opportunity and together this country can accomplish anything. Being part of the US would simply make us subjugate to laws that we did not create. We have our own Constitution, our own laws and we are our own people completely unlike the country of the United States of America who has it's own.

It is my humble opinion, that those who want statehood for our small country are merely misinformed individuals.

And again, to answer the question: NO.

Yes but That's Not a Puerto Rican Choice...Congress it's the Only One who will decide That...Our Opinion Will Not count.

Who cares? They are born citizens and have all the rights the other 50 have.

Statehood is a political process and, Heaven knows, we don't need more political involvement. The meaningless drivel spouted by the political parties is sickening already...

no unlike america where people pay thousands and thousands of dollars a year on hard earned money on property you purchase, in puerto rico your property is yours and after you purchase it theres no such thing as paying taxes every year. people come to america thinking that there are better paying jobs but they are unaware that without a degree or experience of some sort and without knowing english they wont get paid what they assume and come to find out that its really the same thing just more to do.

NO! ABSOLUTELY NOT! We deserve our Independance! Our top leader and founder of the Independance movement (Boricua Popular) party was assassinated by those butchers FBI. Anyone who thinks we should become a state is no doubt a mindless serf. We shouldn't become a state for the following reasons: For one we are Spanish speakers, We are predominantly Catholic and we have different social views, and I think we are more than ready to become independant. I pray to providence itself to give us the will!

I'm from Puerto Rico and I would really love it if we were part of the US. I've traveled a lot to the US and compared each and United States is so much better. I'll probably move there very soon.

i think it would be cool if they were part of the US. they have the territory of the US so why not be a state!
