That's just plain ridiculous, they should get Cuba instead, its so close, all they need to do is wait for the Castro brothers to die and build a bridge from Miami to the island. I'm sure Cubans will receive Americans with open arms, plus imagine that, Cuba, opening to the entire world for the first time, it would attract millions, and a lot of $$$ to the USA. |

There is no need... Donald Trump is gradually buying up the entire of the D.R. and putting up expensive condos for wealthy people. |

well ill speak on behalf of americans saying that no americans like to do anything different, if your different from us we will try and destroy you or make your "right" by using our way of thinking instead, so that being said no, maybe you should become a democracy.
sad way of thinking but its true for our government. |

why not?
DR has interesting tourist sites, natural resources and other things that would interest the US as well, enough to become a common wealth. why is PR a common wealth and DR is not? Its because of political differences and issues such as historical events and treaties that affected some decisions for PR to become a common wealth. Its all about history, politics, convenience and decisions. |

I speak as both, as an American and as a Dominican. Last time The U.S. try to fix D.R. the ruined one of the best chances that the country might have had at becoming a sold stable democracy (Operation Powerback), and even if the U.S. do that I still doubt that it would change much, other than half the country fleeing to the states, like the Beatles said, it's not about changing the constitution, it's about changing your head. |

They tried that in the mid 60s when Lyndon Johnson, known for being little more than a war criminal anyhow, and one of Americas worst presidents.sent the Marines steaming in to save the DR from swaying to the left.To this day a lot of Dominicans feel a degree of hostility towards the USA.

No. Dominican Republic has favorable polithical relations with USA, if US want whatever business agreement with D.R. they easily negotiate and obtain whatever they need at a reasonable cost. With PR and US Virgin Islands already in the area as US territories, I do not see a need to adquire DR or another island in the Caribbean. |
