what i am sure about is that what is taught in secondary schools here is more than is required for the equilivant grade in the US. Usually our students go to school and breeze thru the grade that they are placed into.
Case in point - i have two cousins, dey mom send for them last year...so dey going to school. The younger of the two was supposed to go into Form 2, dey put him in Grade 8 or nine (d last grade before high school nah) and he breezed thru cause he did every thing aready, he was telling me that everything was like revision lol.
His sister was 16 and wrote CXC down here, but dey say that she was too young to go to college (hadda be 17) so she went to school and did her GED's and passed on her first attempt. (For some reason or the other im told that thats a great achievement) So come the end of August she will be starting College.
So, if our education system is not higher than the US, it is defintiely on par!

It depends on the standard or grade. I believe our Primary and Secondary is a bit more advanced than the US - we have the English syllabus. I know of kids who left the US to return here and level of education is one standard lower than than kids their age. Their knowledge may be more vast in some areas though. Some colleges and Universities accept CXC grade 1 - 4 and only three passes for entry. Their College System though is more advanced! |

Of course. Aren't we in line with the British system?
Check this out. My cousin came down from the States to visit last year, and she said she needed to study for an exam when she got back. She asked me to show her some Math problems. The topics she asked about were things I had already done in Primary School, and she was shocked when I showed her my primary school books. She asked me how I could have done all of that already. (It was problems like finding the circumference of a circle, and the area, etc.). She is in her teens. |

Absolutely....I did CXC in trinidad and left with 6 subjects (not that grand) and i could admit that i hardly paid attention when I was in school(ah was damn bad) but i picked up the basics. Now when i moved to Jersey and went to Madison H.S. ( a school which prides itself on academics), I was able to finish a 4yr school in 2yrs while getting on the honor roll every marking period. I was able to do this I think becuz of my background in Trinidad, especially with Math. The only thing I had an issue with was English and learning the MLA format. The studying skills that I acquired in Trinidad helped me alot in every academic aspect. Thank You T&T. |

most definatly....the system in trinidad is more "intense"...kids learn more...and they learn faster...and dey cyah play d fool like american children does do....cuttin school and ting...dats a big hell no in trinidad....lolsz...n e ways...the sad thing is if uh complete uh schoolin in t'dad and come to the US....uh degree doesnt apply...and you have to start all over again...sucks...huh? well non the less i could remember pince charles comin to trinidad once and saying that the edu. system was better than the one in england...come on now...who can beat that...besides america is the onli ones that use the customary system....use faherient instead of centigrade and does drive on the left instead ah d right.... |
