i am wondering if gambling is allowed in st maarten , and can anyone recommend any casino / hotels |

I live on St. Maarten. Gambling is allowed in the Dutch side, but not on the French side. So basically there are a ton of casinos packed onto this side of the island. But, be warned, they are not exactly like the casinos in Vegas or elsewhere in the US. All are very small, and most do not have table games. Most casinos do not have hotels. The only one I can think of that does is Princess Casino with Port de Plaisance resort which is a little past Cole Bay when you are heading to Marigot. It seems nice, but is kinda in the middle of nowhere, and not near the ocean. Sonesta Maho is an okay hotel which is right on the ocean, but I would not call the 20 slot machines in 10 square foot unairconditioned room a casino. Casino Royal is right across the street though, and that one is one of the better ones. Maho is also a nice tourist area. Atlantis Casino is one of the bigger ones, even open 24 hours, it also has 4 restaurants, but no hotel. I have been in 3 of the casinos in Philipsburg and they are the smallest ones, with very few table games. Little Divi seems like a nice hotel in that area. I hope that helps! |

It has stacks of Casinos on th edutch side of the island and despite what other people have told you it is the most beautiful in the Carribean and the people there are awesome!

Yes. I haven't been there in awhile, and things may have changed. There used to be casinos at the Divi Resort (near Philipsburg), The Flamingo (Simpson Bay), and near the Royal Islander club. They're all about the same. |

The Dutchside that has all the casino's. Philipsburg have about 4 and Cole Bay/Simpson Bay/Maho area has about 7 or 8. |
