Does a US permanent resident need a passport to reenter US from Virgin Islands? |
If a US permanent resident travels to the US Virgin Islands (a US territory) will he be asked for his foreign passport on the way back into the US, or is a green card and a driver's license enough to get him back into the country?

Now, if passport is available by all means bring it.
AND CHECK THE AIRLINE!!!! Some airlines require passports, of both RA and US Citizens, on the lame excuse "the plane might have to divert" |

ALL of those who said you need a passport to go to U.S. TERRITORIES ( like the U.S. Virgin Islamns)are just plain WRONG. You do NOT. You have not left the U.S. when you go to a U.S. territory. See website below and read the last sentence in the section under "Summer 2008." to see that it specifically says you do NOT need a passport to travel to U.S. territories. |

New US passport regulations go into effect on January 23, 2007. In order to re-enter the United States by plane from Mexico, Canada or the Caribbean, US citizens will need a passport.
Those coming back into the country by sea and land may still use a driver’s license and birth certificate to prove their citizenship. However, that is expected to change in the near future.
Currently about 73% of all US citizens do not have passports, so this may cause a shift in travel patterns over the next few years. Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands expect an influx of American vacationers, since they are the only Caribbean destinations not affected by the new rules." |

Yup. If you go anywhere outside of the US you need a passport, even if you go to the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Canado, or Mexica. |
