Well, I wasn't going to answer this questions, as I see we have a lot of good answers already, but Pistons5 answer irritated me..
So just to put him straight, Trinidad is a beautiful island in the Caribbean and one of the richest in everything, especially our people, we have some of the best people in the world, I will know, I am Trini and proud to say so.
As with all other countries in the world, we do have our share of crimes, but we welcome one and all to our land of paradise.
On another note.
I got so tired of people not knowing anything about Trinidad and they always look at me as if I'm from another planet when they ask and I tell them I'm from Trinidad, so I printed up some index cards, so when I someone ask where is Trinidad, I just give them the index cards with a lot of info and the trini travel website along with my business info..lol

the thing is people will hear us speak and the first thing they ask is (use ur best yankee accent): Are you from Jamaica? ah mean, look at me, i dont sound anything like ah jamaican! very few people can identify us even considering that we have such a unique way of speaking. but i know what yuh mean, because when ever people ask where im from and yuh say Trinidad, you then have to start at a place where they know - like florida- and give them directions to the bottom of the Caribbean

I understand exactly what you saying i been here for 6 yrs and in school people used to ask me if I'm Jamaican just by my accent and it used to piss me off,and then when i tell them i'm from trinidad they look at me like i make up the place and ask if its in south america UGH! the nerve of those people.OR what if when people know of the place cause they have a friend from the trinidad and lets say the person is from san fernando they expect you to know the person just cuz both of us from trinidad.

Of course! I know wha u mean......I does get tired of people thinking I am Jamaican (no offense JA's) because I have an "accent"......The Caribbean is quite diverse and I am proud of where Im from.....when ya go Trini you must:
Go to the bird sanctuary
Trinidad now has a vineyard and produces wine!
Visit the pitch lake
Go during "turtle" season in the NE
Go for the jazz festival
AND OF COURSE "THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH" CARNIVAL!!

piston, it hadda be ah joke you makin'! you either not from here or yuh en spen no setta time here in years. my country is no different from any odda when it come to crime but to carry we dong so low, ah cyar accep dat. de way you gettin orn is as if people ha to lock up dey house wen dey goin an sh** or like we cyar go out in public or someting. it en have no where on earth more free dan here.

omg im sooo happy u said that thing about jamaica! i HATE that ppl act like jamaica is the only country in the caribbean. its frustrating. but yea im giving a speech on trinidad basically saying the same things u did. so i know im doing a good job!

I know plenty about Trinidad and Tobago considering I live about 500 miles north of you ;) . English speaking, former British crown colony. Far southeastern end of the lesser antilles, located just north of Venezuela, S/SE of Grenada, and S/SW of Barbados.
