The tap water is bad in the d.r and i dont think the contact solution is strong enough to kill of the dangerous bacteria in the water.

Our honeymoon was a cruise from Miami. We were also thinking of just staying in one place like The Poconos, but decided to cruise and see several places with a different port each day. We really enjoyed the cruise, fine dining, nightly shows, lounging by the pool. We felt that the cruise had more to offer. Good luck :-) |

Antigua is a great choice, if you do decide to go you should stay at Sandals Grande resort & Spa or Coco Bay Resort both are amazing resorts right on the beach. |

Try a cruise to Canada (I think they leave from New York area). It is unique and sticks to the coast like you desire. |

Antigua is indeed a great choice, there's always Sandals in the Bahamas, All-Inclusive Resorts in the DR (Punta Cana or Puerto Plata), Marco Island in Naples, FL is very nice. The Ritz Carlton in Sarato is nice too. |
