Dutch part (St.Maarten) official currency is NAF (Netherlands Antilles Florin) but everything is by USD. 1 USD=1.78 NAF some places changes 1 NAF = 0.55 USD. French Side (St.Martin) official currency is EURO. If you go French Side take EURO with you instead of USD. Nowadays 1 EURO = 1.4 USD nearly everywhere in French Side. Also E.C. (Eastern Caribbean) can be used in Dutch Side of the island. 1 E.C. =0.35 USD.

Island itself is like a paradise just for holiday though. If you are living it is boring as in low season there is not much to do.

us dollar and euro. my step son lives there, its beautiful, we are hoping to get there next year. If you see him tell him i said Hi!!

Euro is the currency, but US dollar is also accepted.

It's the Euro surprisingly enough. St. Maarten is half Dutch and half French but the Euro is the common currency there. US dollars are also accepted because of the cruise ships which call.

It's a great place - but like most of the Caribbean, it's expensive. Public transport is OK, however

We used only U S dollars when we went in January of this year. They are widely accepted, more so than the euro.We had a lovely time there, we found it to be beautiful, clean and friendly. We would certainly go again.

The currency on the Dutch side (St Maarten) florin or guilder but dollars are widely accepted. On the French side (St Martin) they accept euros and dollars. But be careful you can lose value with your dollars. Always check to see if they will equal exchange.
(1 euro= 1 dollar) Also be careful dining on the french side, they often add the gratuity so don't double tip.

St Maarten has some of the best duty free shopping. The food is exceptional on both sides of the island. The beaches are wonderful. Check out Orient beach on the french side. I like Mullet beach on the dutch side. Rent a car and explore all the beaches. Take a ferry to Anguilla for the day. Awesome beaches over there. Go to Shoal Bay East.

Have a wonderful time.)
Oh, I forgot, try the Guavaberry colada. YUMMY.....

The Dutch side of St. Maarten uses Netherland Antilles Guilder or Flourin currency (NAF). But, throughout the island, US dollars are accepted.

Fly girl
Eastern Caribbean dollar. It's the dutch side of a small island with about 15,000 people.
