Many People get them mixed up and believe they are the same but Dominica is small english speaking island state in the Eastern caribbean
The Domincan Republic is a spanish speaking state which shares boundaries with Haiti in the Greater Antilles.

Been to both. Dominica is SO gorgeous!! We were there on a cruise, so we didn't have much time to explore, and we did an activity that was in one location, rather than a tour, so we didn't get to snorkel or see the falls, etc. Next time!
DR has gorgeous water and beaches, at least at Punta Cana.

yes they're different and yes i knew. we lived to the country bordering the dominican republic. in haitian creole its easier to distinguish

Not only did I not know they were different, I had never even heard of Dominica. I met the one, & only, family that I know from Dominica, about 10 years ago. Believe me they were eager to correct me when I asked "what, you mean the Dominican Republic?" |

I found out while on the plane to the Dominican Republic (thank goodness that was actually where I wanted to go!) because there was an in-flight magazine about Dominica! I felt really embarrassed that I didn't know that but happy to learn. |

At least 10 AmeriKans a MONTH end up in Domenica instead of the Domenican Republic because AmeriKans are too lazy to say FULL WORDS... so they ask for an airline ticket to "Domenican" when they really want "Domenican REPUBLIC"... and the person selling the ticket sells them a ticket DOMENICA because they think THAT is WHAT THEY ASKED FOR.
Most AmeriKans can't find the STATE they live in on a world map... so how can the possibly know the difference between DOMENICA and the DOMENICAN REPUBLIC.?
I have known the difference for about 30 years... but you must have just discovered it from all the references you listed.... I have ALSO BEEN in BOTH Domenica and the Domenican Republic because I LIVED in the D.R. for about a year... Ave. Independencia in S.D. |
