Dominican Republic's Enter/Exit Requirements for US Citizens. As of today, is a passort needed?
I will be flying from ATL to the Dominican Republic this Friday (8/17/07) and I still have not received my passport. I was told that I can enter/exit the US and DR by having a copy of the passport application status page (as proof of applying for passport), a copy of my birth certificate and picture ID. Is this true? Has anyone recently flown from the US to DR without a passport..
Yes, you do need a Passport to enter the DR.
Otherwise you will not enter here.

This is true and they even changed it again after that ruling so you didn't even have to apply for the passport!
I would bring it anyway and have a great time! I guess you are headed to Sosua/Puerto Plata on the Direct flight?

Apparently because of the considerable delays in Passport distribution nowadays providing proff of a pending passport application can be sufficient. I'd check with my Airline first as this accomodation may vary from country to country.
