North coast is the pretty part of the Island.

Sosua/Cabarete has never been hit by a hurricane.

Cabarete is best if you are a younger sports minded person. World class Kite Surfing and Wind Surfing. Long board surfing is also available but not world class.

If you are a little older and enjoy a great nite life check out Sosua.

The other side of the island reminds me of Kansas cornfields. Nice beaches but BORING in every way.

When you drive East from Puerto Plata you have the mountains and cliffs on the right and a million beaches on the left. There are so many things to do on the north coast such as Ocean World in Confressi where you can swim with the dolphins and feed sharks to world class golf courses such as Playa Grande which is considered the Pebble Beach of the Caribbean. Instead of having 8 holes on the ocean like Pebble Beach you have 12 holes directly on the ocean with one hole you have to shoot over the ocean to save strokes.

Casinos are all over the place, the food is devine and the people are beautiful and man can they dance!

If you want to go diving check out NORTHCOAST DIVING in Sosua. They have the best reputation and have many many different dives to go on.

I live and own a restaurant in Sosua but love the country and have been to every nook and cranny of it.

scuba is awesome all around dominican. North and east pretty similar. Go south it's way nicer for scenery, cleaner sea and nicer beaches. Don't be frightened to go explorin the towns, so long as your carefull and you make sure there is a group of you, it is a great experiance.

I live here and I like the north, there are actually ALOT of water sports; surfing, kiteboarding, scuba diving, tons of stuff like that. I've never been scuba diving on the north coast, but I've done lots of snorkeling! I think you should go to the north coast!

Make sure you only drink potable water. Trust me on this one.

The north is actual the Atlantic Ocean. The east is a combo of the Caribbean and the Atlantic Ocean.

I agree the north side has more night life but I liked the east and south for snorkeling and scuba diving.

You have to decide what you will want to do most of time.
To tell you the truth if your diving not a good idea to party too much at night. JMHO.

I stayed in the north, you cant really go outside the resort as there isn't anything there, saying that the marina is fabulous you snorkel there , we swam with the dolphins and it was the best experience I've ever had

I don't know, I didn't get out of the hotel room much!!

Be very wary of the food and drinks!!!!!!
