Wonderful holiday, make sure you go with a reputable company because hygiene problems seem to be prevalent over there. The only downside for me was the travelling time, otherwise fantabulous.. If you have decided on a hotel, check it out on Holidays uncovered.

it is a amazing place, i have been there 3 times now, make sure you have a high factor sun cream, really hot, nothing to worry about, its safe and the people are lovely, its cheap too, all the best, have a great time.

It's incredibly beautiful. It's also very historical. Pirates have buried treasure there!

It's said to be the only place Captain Cook would still recognize today because most of the other Caribbean islands are now built up areas

it has beautiful beaches && amazing hotels! If yur a grl yu'll cute men if yur a guy yu'll c beauitful girls..but anyways..over there is really cheap, great modern music {merengue and bachata] da weather is great! && DA FOOD IS THE BEST!

Weather can be a bit hit and miss, but generally ok. Beaches are lovely but some can be busy with traders and sometimes a bit grubby. Food and drink all ok, but avoid hotel buffets like the plague!!!! usually un-hygenic and although plentiful, pretty dull and the same thing day in day out. If i were going that way for my hols, i would probably choose Punta Cana. Much classier.

I was on my honeymoon in Puerto Plata in July of 93 and it was pretty darn hot at that time of the year. We stayed on the resort for the whole week as we were warned about going into town by the resort people. It was nice, I am American and my wife and I got the opportunity to meet many very nice Europeans, British mainly. I was buzzed on El Presidente beer and banana mamas most of the time. THe one thing I wished we would have done would have been the Brugal rum factory tour. All in all I would give it a 3 out of 4, the food on our resort was not very good, but that is the only complaint I have.

the dominican republic(me bieng form there)is beautiful as many have already said.there are rainforest and the people and food is great.try to see the country and not stay in a hotel(thats not to fun at all!) atleast for me is wasnt since i have seen the country! im from up north, and it is very different culturaly and geographically then santo domingo.you should visit up north,at lot better in my opinion.if you have the chance,go to the mountain tops and stand on the back of one of those trucks,the little things are what make me proud! you can see all these houses in the mountains and when you look down you can see just everyyything is green.beautiful!NO dominicans dont smell bad dont listen to idiots,although there are alot of haitians(alot!) down south.i sugest you pick a place to stay in el cibao(the northern places).you'll have lots of fun and trust me you wont regret it at all!!!!
