Dominican Republic in March...Puerto Plata or Punta Cana??

I am heading to the DR in March for a week...which is a better place to go...Puerto Plata or Punta Cana?

I am planning on relaxing mostly, but since I have studied DR history, I would love to do some sight seeing too. Any suggestions??

Also any suggestions for hotels, preferably all inclusive???

I am going by myself so any suggestions would be great.

Punta Cana all the way! Puerto Plata is nice but in the recent past has been eclipsed by Punta Cana and La Romana as the most popular resort locations in the country. There are direct flights to the U.S., Europe and South America from Punta Cana's airport that only show important that part of the nation has become with tourists seeking low-cost, all-inclusive vacation resorts.

I just got back and I really enjoyed Punta Cana. This city has excellent sightseeing. Book through, www.cheapcaribbean.com, Majestic Colonia Punta Cana, it is an all inculuisve and an excellent beach and pool.

I went to Puerto Plata not too long ago, and although I had a GREAT time, I wouldn't go back. The beaches weren't that nice, and that's a deal breaker for me. If you plan on spending a lot of time in the resort and want to party at night, then do Puerto Plata. Otherwise, I'd say Punta Cana.

Hey there! Going to Punta Cana in April. I have been checking out trip advisor to see which place I would like better. I heard Punta Cana is beautiful and a lot of fun but I heard puerto plata has more to do off an all inclusive. I decided to go Punta Cana b/c the resort I'm staying at (Bavaro Princess) has everything I will need. Have fun!

Punta Cana has more tourists. The resorts have a lot more young spring breakers wanting to get wasted. I'd head to PP. A little more laid back and local if you travel out of town. A lot of neat little towns are in the area and the scenery is nice. Listen to the guy that answered your question first. He knows a lot. ok matt

To relax and also to do some discovery of the country, then there is only one solution : Puerto Plata, Hotel Gran Ventana
Playa Dorada. This is a middle class hotel with very good cuisine and the staff is good. Hope you will enjoy it!

Go to Cabarete and NOT Puerto Plata or Punta Cana. DO NOT stay in one of the Zoos that they call all inclusives. How boring. Go and stay at a All inclusive where you live if you want the same boring crap!

Cabarete has a wonderful beach and attracts people from all over the world. Most people are sports minded and party on the beach at night. Cabarete is way different than any other beach town in the DR.
