Dominican Republic or Mexico for ALL INCLUSIVE group vacation?

I am going with a large group (very fun lively group) in May 2008. Some children, a few teens, mostly adults, some older (all very fun) that prefer interesting day-trips rather then laying out in the sun all day..... We are looking for lots of variety and interests..... night-life, great scenary, great variety of day-trips (ruins? history, natural parks etc.) motorized (included at the resort would be great) and non water activities, a resort with alot of ammenities and alot of different good restaurants. Great long / large pool with swim -up bar.....

Cross between middle of the road ( nice) to luxury. A choice between both at one resort is ideal since we all have different budgets.

Not too cheesy not to frumpy.

Any suggestions?

Help!! :-)

Alot of us have been to Mexico but never the Dominican Republic...Some are leaving from Florida most from NY.

Having been to both more than a few times, my vote goes to the Dominican Republic. Mexico (Cancun) wins out in the areas of nightlife and visiting ruins, but overall the experience in the Dominican is superior. A property that would fit your criteria would be the Gran Ventana in Puerto Plata. I recommended it to friends several months ago and they loved it as well.

from what ur saying i would go to the domincan republic. most of the resorts down there are more luxury then nice, but there worth every penny.

the all inclusive has many different bar, restaurants, water sports, and a lot more

If this is the type of vacation you want I would suggest NOT going to an AI. You will be better off just going to a nice hotel, or renting some villas and then go on your adventures!

Tours / vehicles / etc from the resorts cost 2-3 x what they cost outside, and you will be out buying lunch anyway most days, so the "value" of the AI goes down as you are out, besides you can mix in the population much better if you aren't with all of the morons who are only there because they have no creativity and want to guzzle cheap booze for their holiday.

An added bonus is that you can support the local economy instead of the huge international chains. You will make some people happy, and maybe let them put their kids through school if you patronize their business. AI's really do more damage to the economy than help it.

I speak mainly for the DR. There are some residences such as Casa Linda, or Perla Marina where you can rent several villas located next to each other. If you don't want to shop/cook/clean, someone will organize that for you as well as help you go up into the mountains, out to several rivers/beaches/coves/etc. Cabarete and Sosua are also both very close and have loads of really good restaurants (better than any AI could ever do) and you can do something different every day if you want! From the way you described your group, I really think this is the better option for you.

If you insist on one of those horrible AI that make you wear the silly looking little hospital bracelet (to identify you to all as a tourie) - try something in Playa Dorada, there are some other restaurants, casinos, etc. within the complex should you need a change of scenery.

I'm Mexican, but if you say you've never been to the Dominican Republic, I'd say go there. You also say you are travelling with a big group of people, your dollars will get you further over there than in Mexico.

On the dominican republic, You can go to the north coast (Puerto Plata, Cabarete and sosua) but the east coast has the most beautiful beaches you can find (white sand clear water) or you can go to Boca Chica or Juan Dolio that are really close to the capital and have a lot offer.

Went to Dom Rep myself some years back same kind of thing four couples 25 to 35. hit lucky with a hotel on the windy side of the island "sorry i can't remember the name" weather was fab beaches emty and long with white sand and the loacls where great, we left the resort for white water rafting and cyleing, no motor sport though as wind surfing was the major sport and lots of beach bars with dudes and all incs mixing and playing volley ball. every thing super cheap, wee got the runs but that's just how it is somtimes. i loved it... Now we go to thailand mainly. can't compare as i've not tried Mexico as i heard it was boring. Good luck

I've been to the dominican twice and I absolutely loved it the people out there are something to behold, they are so friendly and happy to help.most resorts have several free restaurants and you just book in the morning or go to a general dinner that is always available, they have free cafes if you are peckish during the day, free bars and free watersports, most offer other free activities such as horse riding and the places of outstanding beauty are numerous, just talking about it makes me want to be there.wherever you go have a great time and build some great memories.safe flight.
