Dominican Republic is Spanish speaking (Castillano) country
and was discovered by C. Columbus in 1496 ( Isabella).
Puerto Rico is also a country but under American control but there are lot of problems ( political) for the moment.
Dominican Republic is far more interesting than P.Rico, especially the north coast Puerto Plata ( Silver Harbor) with the 1st town of the Americas and the First Church, University
(Santo Domingo) UAS.
Mr. Outrageous
Dominican Republic -It is its own country, it shares the island with Haiti. They speak Spanish and some English.
Puerto Rico- IS AMERICA, YES AMERICA! They speak Spanish mainly but A LOT of people do speak English espcially around resort areas.
maria

Yes, Spanish is the principle language of the Dominican Republic. Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States. Puerto Rico's principle languages are English and Spanish. It is not a sovereign nation. When you travel to the Dominican Republic, you will find that most employees at resorts and vacation destinations do speak some English.
TracyTracer
i do believe both are spanish speaking countries.
Iggy
Both destinations are Spanish speaking...
The Dominican Republic is a sovereign country, Puerto Rico is part of the US, even though it is an "associated state" to the
US which means that the Puerto Ricans are US citizens but they are not a "State of the Union".
Chuckler
People in both countries speak both Spanish and English.
