Most places will give you change in their local currency only. It is best to pay by credit card if you can cause your bank will give you the best exchange rate at the time and you do not have to worry about getting ripped off. |

Nobody takes cash these days. Use your plastic with Mastercard or Cirrus on it and stick it in an ATM. |

I am from the Dominican Republic, and eve tho I don't live there I would strongly suggest you to use Dominican Pesos insted of dollars, believe me you will save more that way. |

Welcome, the best is to keep your Pounds and to change them when you need local money Pesos (RDS) because if you change your money in Us dollars and then change them again in Pesos you gonna lose 2x!!!

If you are planning on staying in hotels or resorts I would stick with dollars as they will gladly accept them. If you plan on venturing out into the country on your own, than pesos as many people will give you their own exchange rates. The peso right now is usually 31-32 pesos for ever dollar. Please use caution and never flash large amounts of cash in public as this will attract con artists and petty thieves. |

It's better to have dollars, don't exchange it at the airport as it is not a good exchange rate.If going to the Playa Dorada resort there are many banks in the plaza that will exchange it for you. Most people will give back change in the local currency , we were told by our guide not to get stuck with large amounts because you can't change it back. |

Gilbert knows what he's talking about! Don't ever change sterling to dollars and dollars to pesos - you will only loose 2x on the conversion. Either change your pounds directly to pesos, or better leave them in the bank in the UK, and go to the ATM and withdraw pesos there - the exchange rate is better!
Nobody wants a stupid worthless dollar nowadays anyway! |

MOST HOTELS AND RESORTS OVER THERE OFFER A CURRENCY EXCHANGE BANK...AND IT'S PESOS NOT PASOS...GOOD LUCK WITH THAT...BUT YOU SHOULD TAKE DOLLARS IT WOULD BE MUCH EASIER FOR YOU TO EXCHANGE |

no need for local currency. just take dollars so ya can change them back if ya don't spend up. |
