Due to family disagreements, we have chosen to elope in Jamaica...but I have a formal dress? |
Any suggestions on where we could wed formerly on the island? It was an expensive gown and I don't want to buy another one, but it will look out of place on the beach.
Thanks... Additional Details Also, if anyone has ideas on where to stay...we have found packages that look appealing from Grand Lido Braco, Gran Bahia Principe, Sunset, and Couple San Souci. Thanks! |

My daughter got married in Montego Bay just over a year ago. She had a pretty fancy dress too. What she decided was instead of getting married right on the beach, she chose to get married on a gazebo that went out over the water. That way her dress didn't have to get dragged through the sand. Also most of the hotels will have several different locations to chose from. Alot of the resorts have wedding gazebos too. Some like my daughter had, and some in the gardens.
I've seen 3 tropical weddings and all of them had formal dress's, so don't worry. |

You don't have to get married on the beach. Lots of Jamaicans have formal weddings. If you were planning a church wedding you should still be able to have one - depends on the church and their requirements and schedule. The best think is probably to ask at the hotels you are considering - in fact, most of them will be able to sort things out with the church too! Couples in particular specializes in this sort of thing. And if you don't want church, the hotels will have nice reception rooms you can use. In fact, many Jamaicans wanting formal weddings will lease rooms at the various hotels for this.
There are two major airports: Norman Manley (Palisadoes) in Kingston, not so good for resort areas; and Sir Donald Sangster in Montego Bay. This latter will be the one for all the resorts.
I don't know what your budget is, but a lot of visitors get married in Jamaica, and the hotels and travel agencies know how to arrange all this. If you have a favorite travel agent talk to him or her.
Good luck :) |

If I would've eloped, it would have to be Jamaica! Congratulations, and it's your wedding, why not wear that beautiful gown on the beach, anything goes now days. Formal, not formal, make it a day to remember. Families see the pictures (if lucky) they will wish they would have been more loving about whatever your wishes were. Make the best of it. Look forward to my 25th Anniversary in 1 1/2 years, destined to go to Jamaica. Let us know how things went, where to stay, also. Best wishes! |

I got married in Montego Bay at Breeze's Resort.
It's very inexpensive, and you can get your choice of Religion / Pastor etc.
If you're wanting it more for a vacation atmosphere, stay in MoBay or Negril.
Ocho Rios is more "party" |

You can wear a formal at the hotel.
They can arrange for you to have the wedding ceremony somewhere not on the beach. They have a variety of different areas at any of those luxurious hotels
Those hotels you mentioned have Wedding Planners.
Those hotels arrange transportation..Call them...You will be flying into Montego Bay airport. |

I have seen Jamaican resort weddings with formal dress. Any of the resorts you mention would work. You don't have to be standing in the sand. They all have beautiful landscaped garden settings as well.
Grand Lido Braco is beautiful, but is mostly an older crowd. Couples would be a better bet unless you are in your 40's or above.
These resorts have wedding coordinators. You can probably contact them by email to discuss your options.
I also recommend googling for wedding pictures and the resort name. Lots of people post their own resort wedding photo albums and you'll get a sense of the types of weddings the different resorts can set up.
Have a great wedding! We're planning on eloping to Jamaica as well, |
