Electric usage in the Dominican Republic?

I'll be traveling to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in January (from the US) and would like to take along my alarm clock and some other stuff. Can I plug my stuff in directly or will I need an adapter?

Electricity in the Dominican Republic operates at 110 Volts/60 HZ as it does in the United States. So, converters are not necessary. But, because voltage irregularities are common in the country - sometimes providing less voltage, sometimes surging - it is important that any appliances or computers you intend to use have surge protection.

The electric is the same as the US. But don't plug in a laptop unless you have a surge protector with you since the electric can be a bit up and down. I had the charger for my PDA zapped and I couldn't get it replaced even after I got back to the US.

I'd take an adapter. I had to.
Its better to be safe than sorry - I'd take one just incase.

Everything is the same as in the USA, 110v and outlets. Enjoy your stay!

take an adapter. i just got back in sep 08 from punta cana. some things needed an adapter and some things didn't. i got the adapters for free at the hotel front desk. if going to a hotel or resort, call first to see if they have adapters. my computer plugged into the wall, but iron and curling iron didn't

Hi William,
No don't worry the outlets are the same as in the USA and with 110v power.

i went to punta cana a few years ago which is in dominican republic and i dont remember having to use an adapter for anything. however check with your hotel before listening to me because they will be the only ones who know for sure.
