Electricity in the Dominican Republic operates at 110 Volts/60 HZ as it does in the United States. So, converters are not necessary. But, because voltage irregularities are common in the country - sometimes providing less voltage, sometimes surging - it is important that any appliances or computers you intend to use have surge protection. |

The electric is the same as the US. But don't plug in a laptop unless you have a surge protector with you since the electric can be a bit up and down. I had the charger for my PDA zapped and I couldn't get it replaced even after I got back to the US. |

I'd take an adapter. I had to.
Its better to be safe than sorry - I'd take one just incase. |

take an adapter. i just got back in sep 08 from punta cana. some things needed an adapter and some things didn't. i got the adapters for free at the hotel front desk. if going to a hotel or resort, call first to see if they have adapters. my computer plugged into the wall, but iron and curling iron didn't |
