Food in Puerto Rico, what should I not miss ?

What food is a must on PR. I'm well traveled in the Carribbean and Mexico and know every area or island has its own specialty.

Puerto Rico has quite a few foods that I would say should Not be missed:

LECHON- roasted pig: Go to a Lechonera to eat this. Guavate is famous but there are others close by San Juan.

MOFONGO- mashed plantain & pork rinds: Can get this anywhere but it can also be filled with seafood

FRITURAS- fried foods: Get this at small roadside kiosks. Try things like Empanadillas and alcapurrias

PINA COLADA: everyone knows Pina Coladas are from PR, but get an authentic handmade one to taste. Usually wont come with rum unless you ask.

* if you go around Christmas you can also try Pasteles and Coquito

Hello!! When you go to Puerto Rico you can't miss the Mofongo. made with green plantains and it can be served with shrimps, pork, etc, this is a MUST! If youre in the San Juan Area you can also go to a place nearby called Piñones, where they have many different fried foods, you cant miss that! Enjoy! you might come back a little heavier lol!

Crica
Mondongo and Guava Paste w/ white fresh cheese. And Guanabana milkshakes.

Pastelles! A dish made with ground plaintain or yucca and served in plaintain leaf with a stew in the middle. Wonderful dish.

Everything they have said plus if you go to the west you should go to Joyudas (Cabo Rojo) and get really good seafood. All around the island there is Ponderosa, a really good restaurant, not expensive at all. Also sorullitos (corn sticks), piononos, and you can try the mofongo de yuca, besides the plantain one, it is softer in texture and delicious!

Mofongo is definitely good.

If you like seafood, try Conch.

Enjoy!
