conch is a mollusk and it lives in the shell you see in films etc that people try to hear the ocean with. It has a chewy texture and if not cooked right, can be quite tough. I love conch fritters, conch chowder, cracked conch. My favorite is conch salad. It has to be made right though. My Aunt lives in the Bahamas, so when I visit, I always have her make all these for me. It has no real taste on it's own to be specific, it just depends on how it's cooked.

I was in the Bahamas , about 15 years ago, the food was
quite bland , conch was a bit rubbery , but ok , the locals
eat a lot of chicken , rice and beans, there are a lot of stalls
selling conch , buy it early in the day as it will go of , there are
nicer things to eat , lobster and grooper , good luck.

Conch chowder is wonderful, creamy and a little spicey. Conch on its own not a lot of taste. But omg the chowder is scrummy.

If you've ever had calamari, that is more or less the taste. Conch has a very chewy quality, which makes it a good food for slimmers, as you expend a great deal of energy masticating it. It has a light taste and is not universally liked. We entertained two visitors from England recently who bravely tried it in two different style dishes and who did not like it at all. There are many ways of dressing it up, but if you want to know what it is really like, I would recommend conch ceviche, which is conch that has been marinated and is served uncooked and cold as a starter dish. Otherwise when you eat conch it tends to be heavily disguised with sauces. or served in fritters. Conch fritters are enjoyed all over the Caribbean area.

You can have steamed conch, cracked conch, conch fritters, conch chowder, conch salad, conch hot patties, in other words just about any way you can image. There is also baked macaroni and cheese that is out of sight, peas and rice, steamed fish, grouper fingers and don't forget the guava duff. I lived in Nassau for 2 years and gained about 15 pounds because the food was great.

It is a light taste, however Conch is used in many dishes so the taste can vary. You can start off with a conch salad, I believe that is the best way to try it. There are yummy Conch fritters, Conch and eggs, anyway possible!

Yes counch is one my country native dish. It can be done in many ways, for example, counch salad wich has tomatoes, sweet pepper. onion etc.It has an aquire taste but it tried by many tourist. As mention in other reponses, it can be done in a chowder, fritters and fried in batter. Good luck...
