My husband is mixed race (asian and white) and he gets questions all the time about 'where he is from' (answer = Manchester!). He prefers to call himself brown! But, let's face it, we're all different shades of brown, from the very dark to the very light. Try not to get upset by it - people love to pigeonhole others but in the long term they don't matter. It's what's in your heart that's important, so be a good person, work hard and try to make the world a better place for everyone. Anyone who feels the need to 'classify' you isn't worth bothering with.

If they ask if you're "mixed race" just say, "Nope....I'm one hundred percent human..."

Im sorry that people dont understand you,I dont think its just coolie people who get asked if they are mixed, I think a lot of fair skinned black people do, esp if they have longer hair (and have it straightened).
Just dont let it bother you, they are the niave ones.

I thought a coolie was an Indian (from India) who lives in the West Indies. Thats what I learned in Bahamian History and thats what it means.

If I say my friend is a coolie I mean he is of Indian (the country) descent. Trinidad has a lot of coolies.

both coolie and dougla people are mixed.but they're primarily black. they also have amerindian ancestry such as the carib and arawaks indians.

Hello from the US! I grew up in the Carribbean where decendants of African slaves and Carib "Indians" are called West Indians, not Coolies. You might like to know that the term "coolie" can be offensive in the US.

Also, the major races of the world are thought to be Caucasoid (white/European, Japanese), Negroid (Black/African), and Mongoloid or Sinoid (Asian, East/West Indian, Eskimo).

According to many anthropologists, that would make you "mixed race" as a decendant of Blacks and Carib Indians. Maybe you could think of yourself as Exotic or Multicultural!

I know that the British, and many other whites, can be hung up the mixed race thing. As globalization progresses, there will likely be very few single-race people after a while anyway. Anyone still stuck on labels will have a hard time.

I'm sorry if this bothers you right now, or if other people's questions are annoying.

FYI, I am a "Euro-mutt" -Romanian, Hungarian, German, French, Scottish.
