You will be absolutely fine, as long as you can prove you have enough money to stay in a hotel while you are there no problems, they will even help you to find a hotel too, the customs at Cuba are great and not anywhere near as bad as people make them out to be, enjoy your stay.

They are usually not to bad at immirgrations there unlike the US. people are ususally trying to leave there to get into the US lol

Maybe you could do an internet search while you are in toronto and find some accomadation rather then just turning up and having to find somewhere then. One tip be careful.

They do usually need to know your destination in Cuba. They will request it on your tourist card. It would at least be good to have some idea of where you're going and what vicinity. If you know that you'll be going to a specific hotel and put that down on your card. Travel there and if you need to find another location, then you can do so freely.

Varadero to havana in a taxi ? it will cost you a fortune !!!!book a place the night/day you get your ticket /dates ,on the internet and you will get a email back in minutes with all the details you need for the imigration , p.s there not to bad but just be carefull if traveling on the public transport

There are loads of places to stay in Varadero, without a trip to Havanna. Get your taxi to the local guest house and decide your journey from there. You could hire a car and go round the island and avoid the worst tourist spots. Go to Havanna for the experience, arty people prefer Mataxas as a more cerebral town. Whatever way you do it, it will be an adventure and the people are just GREAT !

Peace on earth

You can stay in Varadero the first night. Just take a taxi from the airport and ask the driver for a "casa particular", that is a room in a private house. The drivers always know of homes where you can stay and receive money from the owners of the house for taking you there. After the first night, you can arrange for a place in Havana by asking your lodger. They are very helpful. Bring an English-Spanish dictionary. Have a good trip!
