Going from Detroit to Puerto Rico, should I avoid the water and fruit ? |
What about veggies?
Trying to avoid diarrhea from the different bacteria.
My friend said that he didn't remember his system having a hard time adapting. Additional Details Actually, my friend who's been living there for 3 years, tells me that pollution is more of a problem in Puerto Rico than he experienced in Florida. He said that sometimes the city stinks so bad that it gives him a headache and makes him dizzy and nauseous.
Second of all, whether or not pollution is a problem is not the concern here. The concern here is the different bacteria that one might encounter when crossing into the tropics, so if you don't know anything about that, don't bother answering. |

You can eat and drink what ever you like. They're a us territory so there food and water follow the us regulations. They say not to drink the water in Mexico because it's not regulated... You'll be just fine. TRUST ME! |

I went there from Atlanta in March. It was awesome. Make sure you go to the Bio-Bay. The water and food are just fine. I even had a coconut and a monfongo from a street vendor and didn't get sick. You should be fine! |

I will definitely don't drink Detroit's water. I mean seriously. I lived in Orlando and the water is disgusting and I have family in Detroit and they don't even cook with tap water. Speaking about Puerto Rico's water and food. You can drink the water and eat veggies, fruits and all this stuff. Everything is regulated by the us department of agriculture. So, have fun and don't worry to much...
Note:
Hey you are not going to Haiti or something like that where you are going to find a lot of diseases and bacterias. If you are so concern that you will get sick in Puerto Rico because it is a tropical island why are u planning going there. I mean there are a lot people trying to explain u that PR is a US territory and has regulations in the health and agriculture departments.
You are not going to a third world country, you are going to an island that is part of your country like Hawaii. But if you have concerns why you don't call the health and agriculture departments in PR. They can explain to you the regulations that exist in PR. Or if you don't believe in those departments in PR why you don't call to those departments but at a federal level. They can explain to you well!!!!
If u don't like the answers why you post the question....???? |

PR does not have any problems with food health.
our water is drinkable and everything else is safe to eat.
PR has health department inspections in the food area just like the US.
this situation mostly happens in third world countries and in europe and we dont have this problem. we eat and drink anything like in the US. |

Puerto Rico (Commonwealth of the US) has none of those Food Health Issues...
I lived there, and go back every year for a visit...
Enjoy the time there. |

you will be just fine... i was born there. I go back every few years... only thing is that it gets majorly hot there and there's like a bazillion mosquitos. PR is a US territory so everything goes under the regulations. So nothing to worry about.
PS. It is very beautiful so enjoy the scenery |

It's not neccessary. Everything is up to U.S. standards. Regarding the tropical bacteria, I'd worry about it if I was going to Africa or the jungles of Asia. Not here. You're friend prolly lived nearby a dumpster or garbage recycling plant, so he got to whiff some of that scent.
Well, possibly if he was in or near traffic jams a lot, I can understand, smelling all that gasoline and exhaust fumes would give me headaches too. It's better to bike or skate/skateboard, or use the Segway. |

Everywhere you go you will have to get adjusted to, because our condiments are a lot different than in the US, so get ready to visit the toilet a few times, it happens all the time when you visit a a place outside your home country, and I know, I have been to many places outside PR including the US. But the water is very clean. The food is the best, so you'll probably gain weight. |

Water in Puerto Rico is awesome, that's one of the reason the food is great. Polution is not a major problem compairing it to major cities, Example Detroit lol |
