Take Canadian, Euros or Sterling. Do not take U. S. cash, traveller's cheques or credit cards drawn on American banks,. You pay a penalty for changing anything American. Upon arrival you can change tyour money into CUC, Cuban Convertible pesos either at the airport or your resort. They have no value outside Cuba so either use them all up or change them back when you are leaving or save some for your next visit. The site below will give you an approximate exchange rate. enjoy your trip. Cuba is great. You go once chances are you will return.

Canadian if you are canadian and they change it at the airport or at your hotel. Remember your dollar will get you one peso..it seems like alot you are tipping if you give a peso everytime you order a drink or whatever, but the cuban people do not use that currency and they actually get 25 cents of a dollar when they change it into their own currency. Castro keeps the people poor and weak.

If your in the UK you just take Sterling to Cuba with you, you can exchange it for Cuban Peso at the bank in your hotel and you don't get ripped off either, don't forget to take as many toiletries and medication you may require with you as its hard to find in Cuba and very expensive if you do come across any and if you can get your hands on some Avon Skin So Soft after sun spray I would recommend that too as it keeps the mossies away, try and use either spray or roll on mossie spray from your knees downwards as the sand flies love to nibble at your ankles, I take Asda antihistamines the none drowsy for 10 days before I go to Cuba as that helps with any itches you may get from mossies or sand flies, but you can also take vitamin B6 for a few weeks before you go as that is supposed to stop mossies, not tried it myself yet, Cuba is fantastic, been to Cayo Coco twice and at Easter were off to Varadero for two week and can't wait, have a fab time yourself, the Cubans are fantastic people.

Euro or Canadian Dollars or Swissfrancs

No US-Dollars! They charge you the normal changing tax and an additional 10% fee for US-Dollars.

If you use a Credit Card (Visa/Master) to get money they charge you about 10 % tax. And you cant use any Credit Cards from US-Banks.

I always use Traveller Checks in Euro or in Swissfrancs. Thats the safest way.

Tropicales
You can use Euro, CAD, Sterling to exchange to CUC when in Cuba. If you exchange US currency there, you will get charged at least 11%. It's not worth it.
Credit cards can be used as well (but not US cards). Change your money on a one or two day basis. CUC have no value outside of Cuba and you will need to change your money back before going home. So don't exchange everything at once so you don't lose in the return exchange.
And always get a receipt after you've exchanged your money. You want to make sure you get exactly as it's supposed to be.

Have an amazing time in Cuba!
