Going to Grand Bahama Island – any advice?

My fiancé and I will be going to Freeport, Bahama for our honeymoon next year. Does anyone have any suggestions on things to do, places to visit, restaurants, etc?

SPF 30 is just fine. If you are pale and your HIV is making you too weak to tolerate the sun, then yes, pack something stronger. I wore SPF15 and got a nice tan, no burns. Of course, it doesn't hurt to go for about 5 tanning sessions prior.

Go to Port Lucaya, they have the best food and shows. The casino is not far (2 blocks), lots of shopping, the markets, and plenty of restaurants. I don't understand these people who expect to go on a vacation and not spend a little extra money. Don't you realize that everything in the Bahamas is shipped in? Their economy relies 90% on imports. That's why there is a 35% tax at the port and no sales tax in the stores. Of course things will cost more than used to. But, you want to go somewhere nice, you can't be cheap.

The restaurants for a nice meal were maybe $10 more per person than you would be used to in the States. We had lobster and all kinds of large meals (servings are large) and rarely spent over $60 for both of us (including drinks).

Take Visa or Mastercard. They don't accept other cards as readily. Some take AMEX but not often. Bring some cash, but otherwise your cards will be fine. Have fun!

havent been there for 11 years but just enjoy. If the food hasnt changed any you may want to take things you like to eat.i couldnt find any coffee other than instant. Other than that its beautiful , the people were funand I enjoyed it very much. Have a wonderful vacation. You will find almost everything to do. casinos snorkling under water little subs. handgliding etc.

If you don't buy all inclusive, bring lots of money. The food is outrageously priced!!!!

I've never been there, but I have been to the Bahamas, and the most important thing I brought was sunscreen - SPF 50 or higher!!! Trust me!!

Why don't you try something different for a change and go somewhere where many american honey mooners don't go. It's gotta be so boring to see tons of american tourists, try something more romantic. Maybe Italy that's not as common, there's so much more to see and the beaches don't have sharks. Also if you are female you can sunbathe topless, that sounds like a much better honey moon.

Sunscreen. Buy all-inclusive and don't worry about the other stuff.

Do not stay at the Westin/Shereton....although nice..it is TOO big and TOO loud. I have been to every major island, and this was the most like a "meat market." Not to great for honeymooning! Great island, but stay at a smaller place and enjoy one-another! The marketplace in Freeport is cool. Enjoy...and congratulations!!!!!
