Bob Marley's birthplace in Nine Miles is a must! Snorkeling off the coast of Negril is really nice, even if it's your first time. Check out a sound system dance as well. Visit a waterfall where you can chill with the locals. I wouldn't buy any weed either. I have in the past, and in retrospect, I have been really lucky, but it's not the smartest thing to do. Take some tokes off a big spliff if that's your thing. When see a local lighting up (and you will on a regular basis) ask him to share, then buy him a Guinness Stout in return. Next thing you know you are having a great conversation and have plans to go out with them later on that evening. Don't listen to those who say Jamaica is dangerous.... just use common sense.Beware of your own personal prejudices because those can get you in trouble and prevent you from having a great time.

I'm so jealous!!! I spend 6 weeks backpacking around the island back in 1999, it was the best time of my life!!
You should be careful not to flash your money around, people may take advantage of you. It's NOT true that you can smoke weed with impunity, but the laws are more lax than in the US (I'm just assuming you're American). I don't know what area you're going to, but a trip into the Blue Mountains would be a great excursion depending on where you are... best coffee in the world is grown there! Talk to the locals, they are fascinating people!

if your gonna stay in the resort and don't go out ........you may as well stay home....I suggest you get around as much as possible and put all your judgements aside and enjoy the Island and it's people...check out lovers leap in the parish of St.Elizabeth...it's awesome!!!!!!! and Yes be carerfull flashing any money....

If you are planning on going to Jamaica I think you should go to the beaches especially Dunns River Falls. Try going to the craft markets because they have many interesting things there. Ensure you go to some of the parties or "dance" as we call it there. However, try their wonderful meals. Be very careful the crime rate is high, but apart from that the place is wonderful and out of this world. If you are going to Jamaica (the land of wood and water) start making reservations now to stay in one of the most luxurious hotels, for example( Sandals ). Book your flight very early. I can assure you that you will never regret the vacation of a lifetime.

Never travel alone that is the first thing . Second don't flash money around they can see it from miles away. Get a tour guide to take you into the mountains so you can glide thru the air from a harness that attaches to a line that's connect from a tree atop the mountain to a tree on the ground.

if it was me i would be diving and jamaica has alot of drugs and it is kinda dirty so stay in the resort and don't go out of it
