the term suntan lotion usually means the opposite of sunscreen, and instead refers to lotion designed to moisturize and maximize UV exposure and tanning rather than block it. These are commonly called indoor tanning lotions when designed for use with tanning beds and have no sunscreen in them, or just suntan lotion if designed for outdoor use which may or may not have sunscreen protection in them.
it's interesting to note that many tourists come here w' suntan lotion whic only opens up your pores to the harmful rays of the sun...what u really need is sun SCREEN with a sun protection factor(spf)of 15. However, depending on the intensity of the heat, sunburns could occur in a much shorter time. In addition, sunscreen should be reapplied often, especially after swimming or sweating, and applied over all exposed areas of the body.
Even if wearing sunscreen, given the skin cancer risks and skin aging involved with overexposure to the sun, it’s best to limit sun exposure between 10am and 4pm, seek shade, wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses. |
