Great Vacation spot for 1st anniversary? Preferable somwhere tropical.? |
My husband and I would really like to get away sometime the first week in May (4-5 days) and are looking for somewhere nice & not too expensive. We didn't really get a honeymoon so we would like to go somewhere to relax and spend sometime together away from the very stressful business that we own. I don't want to go anywhere too too hot and don't want to spend over $1000 for hotel & spending $ (Airfare can be paid by credit card points). Could anyone recomend somewhere they have been that can stretch the US dollar a little farther? I hear the names of so many islands but don't know how to choose. I hear that parts of the bahama's are really dirty and the Vigin Islands are expensive. Any advice is much appreciated!

You said you want somewhere Tropical?Hmm..it doesnt get more Tropical than the english speaking island of Dominica(Not to be mistaken with the Dominican Republic).Over 60% of its forest is left untouched..the first caribbean country to get Green Globe approved.Has UNESCO world heritage site which is one of our 3 national parks.365 rivers rugged green mountains, waterfalls to die for.etc etc.
You said u want to get away from the very stressful business you own.Dominica was rated as the 4 most happiest place in the world.Has one of the lowest crime rates in the caribbean and it is not overcrowded with tourists.
Though there are no 5-star hotels, the private INTIMATE hotels,villas and guest houses perched in the forests near rivers and lakes etc can prove more benficial for one to relax rather than staying in a concrete tacky touristy resort.Isnt it much more relaxing to wake to the birds symphonies or the waves crashing?(N.B there are varios kinds of accomdation besides the one I speak of above..Check the Various accomdations in the Tripadvisor link I will provide below).

I just got back from the Virgin Islands. It wasn't too pricey. But I went to the Dominican Republic last May and that was a lot cheaper. We stayed in Boca Chica at some resort (I don't recall the name). |

For a nice little getaway, would you consider a 4 night 5 day cruise. Cabin and food is included. Air, liquor and soft drinks aren't. Since you have air miles, this would be ideal for you.

Check out the Dominican Republic. They are much more reasonable than the rest of the Caribbean. I like the Punta Cana area for relaxing and getting a nice tan.

you should go on a cruise to Cozumel Mexico. It is so beautiful. my husband and i went to a beach over there called Paradise beach and we went snorkeling, kayaking for 7 dollars. food and drinks are great. and we also went to progresso, and got to see the flamingos, salt mines, and Mayan ruins. It was awsome, we also had an open bar, and that was like 90 bucks for both of us. |

A place to really sit back and relax would be the Grand Cayman Islands in the Caribbean. We stayed at a resort called Harbour Heights ( http://www.harbourheightscayman.com/ ) and had a wonderful time.
There were so many different activities to do and the resort was right on the Seven Mile Beach. The rates aren't too bad, you can contact them for more information. |

I would recommend St Lucia, they have a Sandals resort there near Pidgeon point which i think you'd really like. The island is not over-priced and has some great things to see such as an aerial rainforest ride and a friday night jump up where they play reggae and dancehall and basically have a big party in the street with street vendors at the roadside. At sandals u can rent out little hobby cats and do things like waterskiing and all sorts |

You should try going to the island of Maui in Hawaii! I went there when I was young and have since dreamed going back for my honeymoon, a 1st anniversary, etc. It's so beautiful and there's so many things to do there. It's romantic, relaxing, adventurous, and wonderful. Maui is considered one of the most beautiful islands of Hawaii. If you find the right hotel, you can get it for a reasonable price too.
