Upper floor. True story, had a lower in Cozumel and the guys that were wasted at the bar, were above me. They bunged up the bathtub and one passed out in it with the water on. Midddle of the night they had to move us to a new unit. Always the upper floor, no matter how many steps now at an all inclusive.

Its more humid on the ground floor and its easier for bugs to get in. The second floor is brighter and has better views. Its nicer to sit on a balcony...we had a big crab crawling around on the patio.

A room on the upper floors -- the higher the better -- with a balcony. We stayed at a beautiful place in Virginia Bech and we could leave the windows opened all day and all night and the curtains open, too, because no one could see in and it was like sleeping on the beach (with the sounds of the birds and the ocean) but without the bugs or the sand. It was perfect

I vote upper floor. I love a balcony and I definately agree that you don't want people walking around above you. I have no idea sometimes what people do in hotel rooms but I have had times where I was on the lower floor and the person(s) above me must have walked around the room for hours. Why, I have no idea. Not sure I want to know ; )
Not all hotels are well insulated when it comes to floor/ceilings.

Either floor sport the same accomodations but depending on the type of flooring you should choose upper or lower. If the flooring is wooden or not properly insulated you would want to choose the upper floor because when people are walking around above you it is quite noisy and can be annoying.

At a resort like Holiday Inn in Montego Bay this problem does not exist because the floors are thick and made of concrete so there is no noise from above.

As far as security, I have never had a problem because the resorts are fenced and has security patrol on the premises.

Another thing to consider is that if you like to look out at the sea or scenery outside then an upper floor is the best bet because the view is better from the upper floors.
