Has anyone been to Cuba from the UK? how much spending money did you take?

Hi,

Me and my gf are going in 2 weeks - we are staying in Cojimar, and we have all inclusive.

The thing is, we are wondering about spending money - we want to do things like swim with dolphins, do a trip to Havana and other bits.

Just wondered if it is cheap and how much people took to spend.

Thanks

Ben

Yes traveled back and forwards for years you will not need any more than a £1000 pounds if you want to do all the trips,
You could combined your dolphin swim with the Havana trip and that will be the most expensive. considering the strength of the pound at present nothing is really that cheap, you will be looking at an exchange rate of 133peso for £100 so be careful where you exchange your money , to be honest the airports in Cuba are giving the best exchange rate at present.
Some banks are giving similar rates but they will not take any notes that have got writing on them so check again.some will some will not.you will be charged a commission on every transaction in the hotels so don't exchange small amounts at anyone time,.

My boyf and I are going to Guardalavaca on Cuba for 2 weeks all inclusive and we are going to take about £500 each to cover trips and any food outside of our resort and for presents we want to buy.

ye its cheap i went for 2 weeks with my ex and week took about 700£ and stayed all inclusive........swimming with the dolphins is not so great! Go to Havana may cost 300 each but well well worth it.

Obviously someone is attempting to be be funny with a suggestion of $9,000.00. Cuba is one of, if not the most inexpensive destinations in the Caribbean. How much spending money you need depends very much on how many excursions you take and which ones you choose. swimming with the dolphins, catamaran tours etc. will be in the neighbourhood of about 70CUC 53 pounds sterling.

A daytrip to Havana. a "must see." somewhere in the same ballpark if you are staying in Varadero. tipping is a big part of visits to Cuba since our Cuban friends who work in the resorts rely so much on them to make a living. As a guideline you might consider a Peso at breakfast ,lunch, and dinner although not necessarily every day. Every few drinks at the bar a Peso and please remember the beach guy who sets up your lounge where you like it, and also the towel person, both an occasional Peso. For your housekeeper for two weeks, my suggestion 25 CUC. My suggestion, don't wait until the last day to tip, although you will no doubt receive excellent service no matter what, obviously in any service business when push comes to shove if the bar is mobbed but you are known as a tipper you know who will get service. Also remember to tip your tour guide. Check this link for approximate conversion rates and remember to hang onto 25 CUC per person to pay the departure tax.

Please fill every nook and cranny of your suitcase with used but not abused clothing and other items which will help our Cuban friends who have weathered so much because of the2008 hurricane season. Checkthis link and have a wonderful time.
