Well, May to November is the rainy season and hurricanes occur between June to November so the chances of rain are very likely. The Viva Wyndham Playa Dorada resot near Puerto Plata is gorgeous but caters more to white tourists. The ClubHotel Riu Bachata was a better experience to me. |

We have been to Sosua in September, which is not far away. The weather was very hot, but did have a couple of torrential downpours. They dont give any warning either. We also had a hurricane warning, as they are popular in September, the hurricane never hit us, but we had very high winds and rain. We went on a few trips on the island which were really good. One was a trip to 'Bacardi Island' which took a few hours to get there, then a 30 minute boat ride to the island. It is where the 'old' bacardi adverts were filmed. The beaches were very clean, and the sea was beautiful. This was a long time ago, so may have changed since then. Have a good time. |

viva wyndham tangerine is very nice. there's rain during the months of june thru november. but its off and on. and it wouldn't really affect your activities. |

I went there for my honeymoon a week before september and it was fantastic, 45 plus lovely location the beach in the bay is gorgeous.
It's really a very nice spot wish I could afford to go back, Hope you enjoy it X
It rained only at night whilst I was there and we had one light shower one afternoon that lasted for all of 5 minutes! |

I went to the Dominican Republic in September a few years ago, I stayed in Boca Chica, it rained once in the 2 weeks we were there, absolutely lashed it down for a whole morning, the rain was warm though and it was nice to be out in it.
The sun came out and everywhere was dry within an hour. |

Never been in September, but it is in middle of hurricane season, though it missed the last one. It rained all the time when I went there in April May this year. However, most of these were downpours and only lasted a few minutes. Just go into the water during the showers and it will soon be dry again. It is also quite exillerating to do, and very refreshing. Playa Dorada is a self contained large complex with many amenities. Go on the safari trip, well worth it and the porta plata trip is also good. If you like Casinos then try the American Casino which is free to enter and has free drinks all night. A good night out for anyone's money. On one night they even paid for our taxi home. Also go to the Ocean World evening and day trips, well worth the money and good fun. Hope you have a lovely time. Good luck. |

hi there went to puerto plata at the beginning of this month and stayed in rui merengue. It was fab. Weather will be hot and hummid. Maje sure you take loads of sun screen but most of all take insect repellent.
We took avon aftersun with insect repellent and dis not get bit once. It was awful to see some people with there legs covered. Especially if people scratch them. Not very attractive!!! |

Been there 5 times at different times of year, the weather is more or less the same through out, only a few degrees different. so it will be hot. If you go into Puerto Plata take a guide in the taxi with you, they will stop you being harassed. it is perfectly safe there and the locals are really friendly. have a nice holiday. |

First my dear, Playa Dorada is a compound with 11 Hotels/Resorts, If it rains in September this will be for max. 15 min and ups! the sun again! So don“t worry en enjoy your holliday!
The compound of Playa Dorada is about 10 min drive from center of Puerto Plata (with bus or "Gua-gua" 10 pesos).
I“m a tour operator for VIP“s ifyou need anything just contact me. |

I wouldn't worry so much about the rain.... I'd be more worried that it's hurricane season.
BTW: Playa Dorada (Golden Beach) is not a resort, it's a gated community just 15 mins East of Puerto Plata where all the hotels are. It's a beautiful area, and if you get the chance, make your way to Mount Isobella de Torres for a spectacular view. |

It will rain everyday, for about 15-20 minutes only. Playa Dorada is a gated resort/condo/shopping community near Puerto Plata proper. If you want better beaches, as the beaches in Playa Dorada are not that great, go to Sosua. The Riu's are in the opposite direction of town, good resorts, but kind of away from everything. |

hi
i went to the bavaro resort on the east coast for 2 weeks in september and if you look on google earth there right beside each other. we only had 2 rain storns and each one lasted just 5 minutes. much needed in that heat(40c by day and 32c at night.
but something i must add. PARADISE
i have been lots of places in the world but nowhere as beatiful as this place. Where you are going we share the same beach and you will want to go back again and again
beleive me you will have a fantastic time and dont worry about those 5minute rainstorms. They are quite refreshing.
Also you get treated like royalty. im jelous
have fun |
