i lived there for a few months and it was great ...trust me the longer your there the more you don't want to leave .....i lived in a condo on isla verde 12th floor right on the beach the view was the best i have every seen ......i had a two bedroom two bath with living room dinning room and a kitchen and balcony also it came with a parking spot under the condo and that help so much .....i paid about $1800.00 a month and that was everything ele,water,cable,phone,e-net.........but it was very touristy where i was ..... it mite help you to go on line to a news paper in p.r. and look for places to stay ....if your going to be there longer then a week you really should look in to staying in a condo or a house ... it will be cheaper .....try looking at these links they mite help.......good luck....

Non Tourist try staying in Dorado or Fajardo or the south

copamarina resort in Guanica is great....from there you can go to Ponce...rincon or travel north to san juan if you like.

I have been to Puerto Rico and love it. I love staying in old San Juan, it has such an old world feel. Last time I stayed at the Sheraton, its nice but pricey. This time I'm looking into more budget friendly accommodations like an apartment rental in old San Juan. It seems cheaper.

I absolutely LOVED PR... My boyfriend and I stayed there for 3 days before leaving for our cruise... which went to Aruba, Curacao, St. Maarten, and St. Thomas.. and to be honest with you.. PR was my favorite!... The people there are SO friendly!.. traffic actually completely stops for you when you are trying to cross the roads.. it was amazing. My boyfriend and I stayed at a Sheraton near the ship port... The location was great because down town old san juan was right behind the hotel.. which had AMAZING night life, and shopping!... It wasn't any where near a beach though... We had to take a taxi to get to the beach... we went to Isla Verde, which was pretty nice... it's no Caribbean style beach, it's more like a Florida beach, but it was nice... The nicest resort I saw on that beach was the Intercontinental... WOW was it gorgeous!... Any where you stay, you will have an amazing time, and def won't want to leave!... just thinking about it makes me want to go back right now!

I have been to Puerto Rico more than 20 times and driven the entire island. It sounds to me you are interested in a hideaway and something different. I highly recommend:

You may also consider the island of Vieques in Puerto Rico which is away from it all and you can always take a ferry or plane to the mainland.
