Cuba is not a bad place to visit. Of course, it's not like the US and is not an affluent country...but it is a place that you should visit, especially being your homeland.
The best thing about Cuba is the people and the country's natural beauty. There is a zest and passion for life, music all around despite the hardships being faced by people. Many think there aren't any changes and that people are backwards and uninformed because of the political situation there.
This is wrong thinking. Cubans are actually well-informed and know full well what's going on in the countries outside of Cuba. They are also up-to-date in many things as well. Many think that only the elite have access to certain amenities...this is not so. Things have been opened up to the Cuban people and they are able to go to the hotels for their vacations, etc...cell phones, computers, and other technological items are available. They work in many different fields and are highly educated and trained people.
Tourism is a popular choice of career for many Cubans as they'd found it has more financial benefits for them.
The countryside and beaches of Cuba are GORGEOUS and unlike many other places.
But the reason why so many people love going to Cuba is because the Cuban people are what make their visits wonderful and exciting. Cubans are one of the most hospitable, warm and genuine people. Friends for life. And even though they may not have much, they will extend hospitality to you from their heart. That is more than anything anyone could want.
I hope you do get to go one day. It will be one trip you will never regret.

Cuba WAS a very nice place, despite all the flaws that it might had.
We produced the best sugar in the world, the best tobacco. We have the best beaches, lovely landscapes, beautiful places.
It is said that when Christopher Columbus discovered Cuba, he said: "Esta es la tierra más hermosa que ojos humanos vieron"
But fidel came and wrecked the country with his ideas. Now we cannot even feed ourselves, getting clothes is a tragedy. Many people live in terrible conditions.
I suppose you know that many Cubans try desperately to escape, risking their lives |

I live in Cuba.
For me, probably the best thing about Cuba is the people.
Many people visit Cuba repeatedly - they love the beaches, or the countryside, or the music. |

it's a wonderful place to visit. I've been nine times, the tenth coming up in December. Tourists are well aware that it is a Communist government but contrary to some we believe we are helping create employment in the tourist industry which is now the major industry in Cuba. Over the years I have been very fortunate to become friends with many Cubans and I look forward to seeing them soon. |
