Has anyone ever been to a Sandals resort ? How was it ?

I am thinking about going to one of their Jamaica resorts in early June

Jon, go to TripAdvisor.com and type in "Sandals Jamaica" in the search area. You will first find dozens of trip reports written by previous visitors. Be warned, some people are very hard to please and others are over flattering.

You can also read the resort amenities in that area, view "candid traveler photos" that visitors have posted, and ask questions in the "forums" area.

Before going to Jamaica last summer I spent a lot of time thinking about what kind of resort I wanted. They are all different. Some cater to children while others don't allow them, some are set up for relaxation while others are much more fun. These are just a couple of important questions to ask yourself when deciding on a resort. When you decide what you want then go to TripAdvisor.com and research. It will make for an even better trip. Have fun!

I went to Sandals Montego Bay this past November. Sandals is very nice, but I would recommend a different Sandals resort. The Montego Bay resort is their oldest and somewhat outdated. Sandals staff are always polite, the food is great, the rooms are nice, and it's a wonderful atmosphere.

Never been there...

But I live in Jamaica for many years... it was very popular for foreign visitors...

You can check this out....

Just a few warnings, avoid going out along at nights...

Sandals Ocho Rios - Long transfer but you make the best of it......Upgrade to the villa aka Deluxe wing

The bus ride: your chance to see the real Jamaica. Ask the driver questions and he is glad to tell you all about his country. Then tip him at the end of the ride for the education!

Check in was a breeze and we were upgraded to Villa’s. I wasnt expecting the welcome kit!

Our villa was close to the Manor House we never called a Jitney as the walk was too beautiful every day. We did hop the bus down to the Riviera Side, never had to wait long.

We tried to eat at every restaurant. I liked the set menu, made it easy. Sure the appetizers seem small, it’s a 5 course meal and by the end of dessert, they were each perfectly proportioned! The food, presentation and service was excellent. The buffet's had such a large selection.

Tips:
1. Meet the employees, learn their names and BE NICE! It will benefit and make your vacation much more enjoyable!

2. Attend the orientation. Tells about restaurants, hours, events etc… at the end they advertise the excursions.

3. RELAX; It’s not the USA/ Canada where life is a rush, its Jamaica and you’re on vacation. So it may take a few vacationers in front of you to get a drink, just order two!

4. Take a digital picture of the daily activities board and the restaurant hours. So you dont miss any event, and arent late to dinner!

5. Walk the premises, they grounds and the pools are beautiful and you may find something new.

6. Make a note of which photographer and what date they took your SNAPSHOTS! Order a few, they are fabulous!

7. Diving – you have to sign up the day before you want to dive! Remember to bring your dive card.

8. Go early to the restaurants if you don’t want to wait.

9. Rent a Cabana for a day, poolside, it was worth it. Go Andrew! 1st class service!

10. The Redline Spa couples massage in a cabana, marvelous!

11. Take more than one swimsuit!

Your vacation is what you make of it. We went to relax and get away. We spent most of our time in our swimsuits, pool or ocean side, and that was our goal! It is a bit rainy in January but didnt hamper our vacation one bit!

Bad Samaritan
The all-inclusive has its pros and cons. If you want to an uncluttered vacation..go for it.

I stayed at montego bay in October. It was great! That resort is their original. The staff was extremely friendly. There were things to do all day- water sports are included and everything else is as well. There's some sort of show each night, and the people who work in the entertainment department are awesome! We actually kept in touch with a few.

One thing I would suggest is just looking through the sandals website, where they describe each resort. Look through their activities and what they offer to see what it is you're looking for.

We stayed at Sandals Whitehouse in Jamaica two years ago this June...they had recently opened. We went with another couple and really enjoyed it. There were lots of activities and dining choices, but you could also do nothing and hang out pool or beach side. Everything was meticulously clean, and the employees were courteous. All of the rooms have ocean front balconies, and it's nice to order breakfast and have it on your balcony. Of course, I also recall getting a very good price on the trip because we booked it before they were even open. The only drawback is that it's a 45 minute or so bus ride from the airport.

Of course, the resort's guests are all couples and no children. The ages were mixed from 20's to 50's. The resort is set up with villages...French, Italian, and Dutch. I think we stayed in the Dutch village which is the farthest from the main restaurants and water activities. On the plus side, it has an outdoor lunch spot and very nice pool and bar within the village. On the minus side, it's walk to dinner and back if you're tired.

The guys enjoyed the diving. The afternoon snorkeling was a bit rough, but better in the AM. There were plenty of hobies to sail. I don't recall having to wait in line for anything. The gym was well-equipped, though I didn't use the spa facilities. I don't remember much about the food, so I guess it wasn't bad, but wasn't outstanding. There were a lot of bars...even mini bars set up on the beaches, so you didn't go dry walking beach side!

As far as weather, we went in late June. The mornings were gorgeous with clouds rolling in late in the afternoons. I think we had an hour of rain one afternoon while there. All in all, we enjoyed our 5 day stay and thought it was a good value for the money.
