ha ha!..okay..I'm Jamaican and you make me want to laugh!
But anywho, for people who are traveling to Jamaica..I make warnings! Alot of times, people come to Jamaica with a ONESET mind..this is how Jamaica is..paradise, hey mons, all kindah things!
It is all that..but it also has a not so pretty side.
You talk about hustlin u for ur money? You are not special becuz they do it to us JAMAICANS too..the only difference is..we KNOW our country and can pick up when we are getting hustled! However, you were new and had a starry eyed persona of Jamaica. I bet if you had KNOWN that u would be hustled BEFORE u went..you would have a better time becuz you'd know how to handle it. Simple walk off and say no..and laugh when they insult you..or curse them otuback..follow what we Jamaicans do..that's all
The food IS GOOD..did you eat in the RESORT or RESTUARANTS becuz STREET COOKERS are the best cookers in Jamaica. Food sold on the street side are cooked impeccably..not even Jamaicans go to jamaican RESTUARANTS..they go to chinese, italian..etc..but never JAMAICAN restuarants. They will hustle you too at the food shop.."buy mines..buy mines" ..they will run up to you and get all crazy..BUT if you are really nice..they give you some free food along with the buy! I mean seriously, they are trying to make a buck for there children instead of selling drugs or prostitiuting and you can't knock that!
GO BACK to Jamaica with the knowledge you have now and your going to take back those word!
Sorry for ur bad experience, we have that so called bad experienc EVERYDAY..lol..but it's apart of life to us and I know you'll love it once you gain some knowledge about how to behave down there..
The people who enjoy themself the most are the people who are SO OPEN to the culture and pick up the attitude of a Jamaican or embrace the culture of Jamaica.. |

I've been to Jamaica, and loved it. So much we are heading there again in 2 days, to spend Christmas & New Years.
I've travelled around the world and I don't find the people in Jamaica overly pushy. A simple no thanks usually works. If not, a get lost does. Also to anyone who's afraid to leave the resort or ship, don't ever ever ever go to Nairobi. If they bother you in Jamaica, you'll crap your pants there.
And the food. I thought it was good. Especially the jerk. I don't go to a different country expecting things to be the same as home. I go to different countries to see their culture.
I think some people just aren't cut out for travelling. |

Much of the world outside of the US will try to hustle money from you. |

I was at Sandals in Ochos Rios and it was fantastic. The locals "hustling money" from you off the resort was part of the fun. They're harmless. Hell, I bought a round of Red Stripe beer for the regulars in their bar and it cost me $10 USD for about 15 beers! |

Been there, loved it. If you go, you must go to Dunns River Falls in Ocho Rios. |

Live there but if traveling takes a while to get use to.Jamaicans love to hustle not good though and it depends on the kind of food served and your taste.I hate the violence and crime but it OK |

Yes I have, in 93, and I loved it so much that I really didn't want to come back. But then, I didn't stay at a resort, I was fortunate enough to be able to stay on an estate, and it was so relaxing, and so fun, and the friends I was with were real.
John and Ronda, if you are out there, I miss you! |

It was okey, I was only there for an afternoon from a Cruise, and got real tired of the people trying to get you to buy their stuff from their shop and then try to jack you once you got into their store. I was ready to leave after an hour or two... |

I went back to the ship 30 minute after I got there. I felt safer in NYC at 2:00 am then I did in Jamaica! |
