CONGRATS! I hope you have fun. OK I reccomend that you spend atleast 1 full day in San Juan. This is the big city & there is plenty to do & see here. You will want to go to El Morro Fort & all of the rest of the historic sites. There are lots of restaurants, shopping, casinos, nightclubs & more in San Juan also. You can go to the Bacardi Factory tour in Catano if that interests you. Outside of San Juan you can go to El Yunque rain forest. You can walk paths or hike & then swim in waterfalls. Camuy Caves are a great site too, but you should call 800-866-7827 (PR tourism) & make sure the main cave has re-opened before you go. Also close by is Arecibo Telescope, the worlds largest radio telescope. If you want to go to a bioluminescent bay then you need to go to Mosquito bay in Vieques or Las Croabas Lagoon in Fajardo. They are good, the bay at La Parguera is not worth it. Also the best beaches in PR are on Vieques & Culebra islands. Enjoy :)

Old San Juan is a must. Visit El Morro and San Cristobal forts, lots of shops, restaurants and small cafeterias like La Bombonera and La Mallorca, great for lunch with locals. There is a Segway tour in OSJ, they take you to the points of interest.

Where you'll be staying?

I live There. Every part of it has a bit of history majorly San Juan. The best place to see is called "El Junque". When they were going to choose the new 7 wonders of the world they considered this area like one. Its kinda hot here now don't pack shorts a sirt and jeans would be enough to keep you conferable, at night get a jacket tho i suggest coming in summer

Check out old San Juan, and then the west coast. I live in the Rincon area. I came on vacation and I stayed. There's a very nice community here and plenty of things to do.
What I don't like about San Juan is the traffic. Too much for me. Rincon doesn't have a stop light, and everything is close. You can snorkel, surf, deep sea fish and there are plenty of small bed and breakfasts and Inns that won't break your budget.
When you do drive to Rincon, take the southern route. It's much longer but the view is spectacular and there are fewer stop lights.
Also check out the light house in the Cabo Rojo area.
I wrote about the lighthouse in my blog. There's a nice beach as well. Take your snorkeling gear. Check out my minute video of the lighthouse.

Old San Juan (El Morro, shopping), Bioluminescent Bay in Vieques (glowing phosphorescent algae, can swim and glow like an angel - really cool), El Junque (only tropical rain forest in US park system, can hike to waterfalls, see lots of cool plants and wildlife), Tropical Trail Rides in Isabela (horse back riding along the beach on the west side of the island), Camuy Caves (will be reasonably on the way to Isabela, really cool subterranean cave park), and of course, enjoy the beaches.

Congrats, and enjoy!
