i live in ocho rios - sandals ocho rios is nice -its all inclusive so everything is provided - you can visit tour tesk at hotel and go on excursions to see various sight seeing spots
take sunscreen, digital camera (for all the wonderful memories) and have fun fun fun
no one is allowed into the hotel - so you wont get bothered by people there and security is pretty good so you will be safe - you get a free transport bus to and back from airport to hotel and only if you decide to go on the road by yourself you take necessary precautions like you would anywhere else.
Police is in foot patrol in the town area so it is fairly safe but you may be some harrasment to buy drugs or marijuana as you are visible as a tourist |

If you' re going to stay there, you are going to be safe and you will have everything all inclusive. Unfortunately, you are not going to see Jamaica. |

Yup,
It's an all inclusive. Quite nice, although I prefer Cuba (Cayo Coco). I found the beach bums were extremely aggressive and I had my pocket picked for about 200 Jamacian dollars.
Have fun and don't wear any jewelry, even the wedding bands, Jamacia isn't rich by any means so take normal traveling precautions regardless if you are black, white or purple with a horn sticking out of your head. Common sense, don't talk money politics or social standing. History, bar jokes, common stories and how awesome the day was are good standard fare.
Otherwise lots of good bullshit to be heard in the pubs, people are nice like everywhere and you can buy a cra load of weed from almost everybody on the resort. An ounce should set you back $20 US. |

Go to TripAdvisor.com and type in your resort name in the search area. There will be dozens of reviews from previous guests. You will find lots of good info there. But be warned when reading reviews, some people will LOVE it and some will HATE it. |

I drove around the island and saw black sand, white sand, brown sand, and slept in the car. That was some years ago. Not sure if I would risk it now. As to Ochos Rios, there are hotels for a few hundred a night, but just below in the town, I stayed in a hotel for two dollars a night. The lock on the door was the kind of hook you see on an outside gate, not really a lock. Noone tried to get in, although I thought I heard someone asking if they had white people staying in the hotel. A little scary but a bargain. Lots of red light areas in Kingston. |

Sandals Ocho is very nice.
Be careful of what you read on-line -- your taste might differ from someone else. Some of the stuff you might read on-line is NOT all fact.
Find a good travel agent that has been, they (we) have plenty of specials to Jamaica. |
