i have been there twice... it is beautiful...I go to visit family and also play tourist...Just like any city you have good and bad areas. I never once worried about my safety or kids safety. the people are the greatest and nicest and the food oh the food...There is so much to see there i would go to i believe puertorico.com find spots ahead of time you would like to see. if you are a drinker go to don q rum/bacardi factory.. old san juan for the beauty of the town... el yunque for a hike and landscape.. not to forget the greatest natural waterfalls... they also have the caves.. really just depends on you and what you like.. try to research it first and have a plan on what you want to see...have fun...
