Hi, Does my partner need to change her passport, as we are getting married shortly, and honeymooning next day? |
Some people have said we do need to change, as she is taking on my name, and some people have said to not bother, chance it, and take our wedding certificate with us, but its a big risk, as I believe the Cuban goverment are very strict. |

Don't worry...just use her old name until you return. |

Book your honeymoon in her maden name & when you's come back from honeymoon change her details on the passport & everything else.
It's easier that way |

No, when you go on a trip immediately after a wedding the women should keep her information with her maiden name. Her name will not be legally changed until you go and have that done after the wedding. If she already started to process of changing it make sure to take a copy of the wedding cert. (maybe take one with you either way because showing you just got married might bring you an upgrade at airport or hotel). I assume you are not an American as it is illegal to travel to Cuba, so double cheek my info with one of your countries websites but I am 99.5% sure what I am saying is true. If her other documents (like driver's licence) says her maiden name make sure all her other documents do to, and make sure her air ticket is in maiden name. |

Cuban women don't take the last names of their husbands in Cuba they have two last names for example Diego Garcia Diego after her father and Garcia after her mother,
Cubans have the same last names all their lives so logically in your situation that is not necessary but be care full to have all your papers in order including the passport it has to be valid for the next two years, visit the Cuban consulate and don't be scared. Visit my web page
http://www.geocities.com/jerrymar24/index.html I have been many times to Cuba my page still under construction but can give you some insight to your trip. |

take the marriage license with you and when you get back, she will need to obtain a new passport with new pictures (DS5504) - there is no passport fee if it is done within one year. if you are travelling to cuba on a us passport, check the special requirements below:
CUBA - *Passport and visa required. For specific requirements, consult the Cuban Interests Section, 2630 16th St., NW, Washington, DC 20009 (202/797-8518). HIV test required for those staying longer than 90 days. Attention: U.S. citizens need a U.S. Treasury Department license in order to engage in any transactions related to travel to and within Cuba (this includes the use of U.S. currency). Before planning any travel to Cuba, U.S. citizens should contact the Licensing Division, Office of Foreign Assets Control, U.S. Department of Treasury, (202/622-2480) or on the Internet at www.treas.gov/ofac |

Ok , government in Cuba is strick but c'mon, they all know that married couples of other countries, the wife usually takes the husband last name... but that is not the issue , you wont have a new passport on time , and the names should all match : Airline ticket , passport , etc etc etc |

hi, you need a marriage certificate to change the name on a passport. you wont have a new passport back in time. all airline tickets MUST have the maiden name on them as it appears on her passport or she wont be allowed to travel. hotel may be more lenient and allow to book in married name on production of marriage certificate. |

No she doesn't need to get a new passport, unless the name on the ticket is her new sirname? the name of the ticket must match the passport. If the new name is on the ticket then you can get it changed for 30 quid.
Also you might want to double check the expiry date on the passports, i was checking in newlyweds to cancun and the wife couldnt fly because her passport was out of date!
Happy honeymooning! |

No.
We got married in St Lucia and the simple fact is that there is no legal name change so just keep your wife (congratulations by the way!!!!) in her maiden name until you get back and all will be just fine. |

As long as the trip is booked in her maiden name she doesn't need to change her passport. |

The flight ticket must match the name on her passport. The Cuban visa must also be made to the person named on her passport. You will not have time to have a name changed on the passport before you travel. So do not have the passport changed until after the honeymoon. Have the flight and visa under her maiden name so they match the maiden name on her passport. |

I doubt she can actually change her name until you are married so as your honeymooning the next day you won't be able to do that until you return, as long as you have your marriage certificate with you no worries, have a lovely wedding and honeymoon. |

last year when my daughter was getting married and honeymooning in Mexico she needed a passport in her married name - you get it to start on the day you get married, obviously they send it back to you before then but cant use it till the day of your marriage. |

She dont need to change the passport since you only got married it is understandable the she still uses her father's surname. Even married couples who are married for more than 5 years their spouses can still use her maiden name on her passpot. If you still feel uneasy to travel beause of this consult your department of tourism. |

She can use her maiden name, but take your wedding certificate with you. |
