Honeymoon destinations and travel agents?

My fiance and I are getting married on June 14 we want to go somewhere from June 15th to June 20th (Sun - Friday)
1) We want to go someplace warm i.e. Bahammas etc However we don't want to be around tourists and kids but yet close enough to shopping and eatery's as possible. (On a beach would be great too)

2) Does anyone recommend a travel agent? I am currently looking at Expedia all inclusive deals.

Other than that...we live in Maine and will fly out of Boston. I would like to keep it in the $2k range for flight and Hotel. All help is appreciated.

There's nothing wrong with using the Internet if you know what you're doing and you don't mind spending time researching destinations, hotels, etc. However, I formerly worked for Expedia and I'll be the first to tell you that some people should use travel agents.

I saw a lot of "amateur mistakes" made by customers that a good travel agent would not make. Examples include booking hotels based exclusively on price and being shocked that the hotel was not in the best of shape or in the best location. I also saw catastrophic errors such as showing up at the airport for an international flight with no passport. That means no trip and no refund on the airline tickets.

If you are an experienced traveler or can put the proper time in for research, go ahead and use Expedia. If not, go to a travel agent. A good agent can suggest destination options, shop for the lowest fare, suggest a good hotel, and answer all of your questions. If you need a passport, they'll tell you and explain how to get one. Even if there is a service fee, it's worth it. Do you want to risk a disastrous honeymoon just to save a couple of bucks?

Here's a good place to start looking, I found it researching that myself. http://ellensweddingadvice.blogspot.com/

Not to many all-inclusives in the Bahamas but many in Cancun, Riviera Maya area. Also Dominican Republic is also a great place that has nice all-inclusives.

I would do some research on the web for places to go and once you have found a destination, I would check out your local travel agency. I have always had great luck with travel agencies. They are often cheaper. We went to Mexico in May and we saved several hundred dollars by using a travel agent. It's your honeymoon and you want a nice place to celebrate your marriage.

June is a month that families travel, so I would look for a couples only resort. Check out the Palace resorts, Riu Resorts, Secrets Excellents, Sandals Resorts.

You will be staggered how prices vary! I have booked a holiday and saved almost 800 pounds just shopping around for the best quote.

Congrats on getting married! I live in Boston and travel quite a bit so hopefully my advice will be helpful. The beauty of flying out of Boston is that you can go many places direct. I would recommend four places for you: Bermuda, Bahamas, Aruba, Cancun. All can be reached directly from Boston. I just returned from Cancun with my wife and we had a great time. There is a section of the strip that is very "spring breakish" and mostly avoidable for adults (though was fun for a night or two), but another section that is top notch with great restaurants and upscale hotels. There are some outstanding all-inclusives that you could easily do the 5 days for under $2k flight/hotel. Bermuda is beautiful in June and would be my recommendation for you. Plus, the flight is around 2 hours from Boston. Again, Bermuda could be done for under $2k, has incredible pink sand beaches, great hotels and restaurants, and cool villages to walk/shop through. No matter what you pick it will be great as honeymoons are something special.

Last piece of advice would be to check out http://www.travelcuse.com for your trip. We just used them for Cancun and got a great deal on air/hotel combo that saved us over 30%. Best of luck!

The only thing I can tell you is that if you want to be around the beach, shopping, and eateries, you are going to be around tourists, so you might as well get used to that idea now.
