You can hire a charter boat and do it yourself.. We also have like a mail boat, which is very old fashioned and not cruiselike at all. The Feista Mail. It brings over mostly cargo but carries passengers as well. I would not want to travel on it but I know people who have and they says its ok. Its is slow though. O endure the Discovery Cruise its a few hours and somewhat touristy but its a least confortable.. We usred to have a boat called the cat which would have been perfect for you, it may come back so look out for it unless you plan on travelling really soon.

Forget about the ship!

Why don't you just swim across?

It's a good exercise, I promise!

Discovery Cruises (www.discoverycruise.com) run daily ships from Ft. Lauderdale to Grand Bahama / Freeport. Price is around $150 I think. Maybe they go to Nassau as well.
You can cruise over, stay as long as you want, and cruise back.

You can take a charter. Call the charter services out of Miami and inquire about open seats. You can also take a cruise line. Take a little time to review the shipping lines in Miami, call their toll free numbers and ask if they have set itineraries, most do not. You should be able to relax and enjoy your passage without having to take part in a bunch of hoopla. You might also try looking for lines departing from Ft. Lauderdale, but off hand, I can't think of any.

I hope this helps.

buy a boat, bigger than 22 foot, figure the boat gets about 5 -8 miles to the gallon and from ft. lauderdale its about 67 miles to nassau....you need about 8 to 13 gallons of fuel....but in reality would not take unless I had 40 gallons....I've done the trip twice....

If you want to go "through" the sea, you will probably have to contact the USN submarine squadron. Try them in Groton, CT.

On a serious note, take the puddle jumper - quick, frequent, cheap.
