How do I get into Cuba?

As we Americans know, it is technically illegal to visit Cuba, but I've heard stories of those who made it. What is the most reliable way to get there as US citizens, without getting in legal trouble on the way back?

fly from mex. toronto or through kingston.you can bring back cigars just make sure you take off all the bands.also it's not illegal to go to cuba,it's illegal to spend money in cuba so if you stay with your good friend jose in havana and he pays for everything you're fine.

A group of us from Vancouver BC went to Cuba afew years ago. We met some people from Seattle, Washington. They just crossed the line & took a Canadian tour. They had no problems at all.
BTW, Cuba is beautiful & has the friendliest people

If you are a U.S. citizen and/or subject to the laws of the U.S., don't go to Cuba unless you have a license! The fine is $10,000! Did you know that friendly air carriers provide the passenger lists from those "third country" flights to U.S. Customs? Also, the Cubans discretely mark U.S. passports, and U.S. Customs knows where to find the marks. To still want to travel there illegally, you are setting yourself up for trouble. Take it from this licensed traveler--there isn't that much to see or do unless you can entertain yourself. It's certainly not worth $10,000 to say you've done it.

Here is what I answered to someone with your same question:
One way go to American airlines, Continental or whatever airline that travels to the Caribean and book a flight to Cancun then go to Cubana de Aviacion link there below ( which is the only cuban airline) you can either do it tru Cancun , Santo DOmingo (DR) ; Kingston, Jamaica; etc. You will see there in the Cubana website which cities they flight so you can make a transfer, if you live in the north of US you can do it tru Toronto.
Just have to make sure they dont stamp your passport over there in Cuba which they usually dont. However even though you are not getting the US permit you still need a Tourist Card or Visa to enter Cuba, it applies to all people but is also easy to get tru many cuba travel agencies.

I know you have to go throught some "serious" process to get there. You just have to get permission from the US Government. They do Background checks or something like that on you.

I am pretty sure if you go indirectly (through another country first) you will be fine. Do NOT take or attempt to hide any Cigars coming back though. Don't break any laws there. I want to go badly because that is where my parents are from.

You also can go thru Nassau, Bahamas. There are flight every day except Saturday and Tuesday.Only one flight a day leaves at 2:30pm. and Sunday 6:15 pm Try not bring rum and cigars, and if they ask you if you were in Cuba said the true, and said that you stay in a friend house that you met here . You don't spent money there .well only for food, if they ask for the address, try to memorize a address from there like a street name , that you don't remember the house number.call cubana aviacion en Nassau and made reservation by phone and you paid went you get there is Nassau to Havana R.T. $286.00 that include the visa. And be prepare for every 100.00dollar they give in Cuban money (CUC) 80.00you have to change the money . every body no mater what country you come from .His very poor but beautiful, beaches are gorges. good luck!!!!! Bahamas air go to Havana from Nassau go to the web site and you see.

Its a common mistake that it is illegal to go to Cuba. It is legal. There are even charter flights out of Miami.

A friend of mine who lives in America found that the best way for him to take a Cuba holiday was by coming to London first, and then flying out there afterwards. This worked for him because he wanted to visit friends in the UK before enjoying a relaxing holiday in Cuba, so I understand that it might not be the best option for others.

I don't know the exact ins and outs of his complete journey but I do know that when it came to arranging the holiday he was given excellent advice and help from a company called The Holiday Place. They were extremely quick to find the dates he needed, and from what he told me they managed to provide him with accommodation which suited his needs perfectly.

He came back to England after enjoying a 6 night Cuba holiday and returned home the following day, and to my knowledge he didn't encounter any real difficulties.

Like I said before, I'm not entirely sure of the ins and outs of his trip, or indeed the legalities involved but he seems to be Ok!

A mutual friend of ours recommended The Holiday Place to him having enjoyed a Cuba holiday herself just last year with them, so based on their overall experiences I myself am now looking to book one of their Cuba packages.

Incidentally, if that option isn't possible you could try flying to Canada before going on to Cuba - again, my knowledge here isn't very deep but it is apparently a very easy way of getting to enjoy a holiday to Cuba!

Fly there from any third party country.... but oh yea though not totally necessary staying in that country for a couple of days is good.

There is not really much to do, see or great places to stay. The only great attraction to americans is that it is a denied country....... even those from other countries that can fly there choose elsewhere in the region. So many places in the world to do cool things. American tourist in Cuba? You pay ten times more for everything as those who go are usually not experienced travelers and are looking for a cool factor.

Im betting you are thinking more of the Moore thing. But if you are also thinking cigars........ the great growers, producers and such left to other places. You can buy Cuban cigars the world over. But all in all the cigars are crap only appealing to those who want something that is denied. The same applies to liquor.

Dollar for dollar pick somewhere in south america. The dollar goes a long way and when was the last time you heard someone say "I went to Argentina" or such.

I think most people go through Mexico or Canada. What´s in Cuba besides poverty?
