And why do you want to go there ?

Cuba is the oldest comunist dictatorship in the world ( or might be North Corea ).

What interests you from there ?

We are trying to escape, why do you want to go ?

on a raft

Well, about your question, I don't know. The two times that I went back to cuba I did it by plane

But I know that most cubans try to come here on a home made raft. You might try it

At the present moment, I would not recommend it

You could go on balloon. We had a guy called Matías Pérez, who flew on a balloon and disappeared in the XIX century

You can buy a flight through travel agencies that help Americans purchase tickets, or you can fly to Cancun and purchase your ticket to Cuba once you arrive there. If you are more comfortable with prearranged travel, try CubaLinda.com

Some people fly from cities in Canada, or the Bahamas. Cancun is said to be the best choice. However, your passport will be stamped when you enter Mexico from the U.S., and when you enter the second time from Cuba. The only risk you take, is that a customs agent upon return to the U.S. may ask where you were between your two entry stamps into Mexico. There are many websites with advice on how to handle this risk, and that can help educate on the level of risk as well. I think CubaLinda.com is a good place to start researching.

Good Luck!

There are direct flights from the US to Cuba everyday, and vice versa. But to fly direct you would need to obtain a travel licence from the OFAC. Because it is not applicable for everyone, that is why most choose to travel via a 3rd country such as Canada or Mexico.

Someone said to get another passport to avoid anyone seeing the stamp. Actually Cuba doesn't stamp passports. They only stamp your carta turista (tourist card/visa) that is required to enter and exit the country...and then is disposed of after you exit the country. You'd basically have to ask them to stamp it if you really want it in your passport. So that's not a concern for anyone from anywhere.

If you choose to fly to cuba you will need to travel through Mexico, Canada, or a Caribbean nation. Please refer to site below before traveling.

You'll have to book a flight to Canada or any country that doesn't have an embargo with Cuba, you might also want to get a passport from another country besides the U.S. But that's only if you don't want the stamp on the passport, sometimes if they see your from the U.S. they won't stamp it and just let you through, Cuba loves tourists. :D
