How do you you get to your hotel from the airport in San Juan, PR?
If you are just staying in the San Juan area (like Marriott, Hilton, etc.) I know there have to be taxis, but my question is: will the taxi drivers try to swindle tourists or do you agree on a fare beforehand, etc.?
Taxis will be waiting and you just tell them were to go. They will not take advantage of you. It should be less than than $20 to get to any hotel nearby (Isla Verde) and a bit more if they are in Old San Juan.
Just to feel safe, ask any worker from the airport how much it should cost you.
Enjoy your trip!

OK, ignore the answer that states that the taxi cost will be metered.
Any travel by taxi in the tourist zones (which includes the airport, hotels in isla verde, condado, Old San Juan and crusie ship docks in OSJ and the Pan Am piers) is a fixed price based on the starting zone and the ending zone.
e.g.
Aiport is Zone 1
Isla Verde hotels are Zone 3
cost is $15 + extra for luggage

go to the lowest level of the airport and to the Tourist taxi stand..they will get you a taxi and tell you the fare.

A taxi is problably the best choice and as for swindling it is not something done very commonly. At least not with us because my parents know how to get around and they will notice if the taxi is trying to rip us off.

Just make sure you take the taxis that are authorize. They are easily recognizable. They are white car or van with the El Morro Fortress logo. If you are not sure, you can always ask an employee or airport staff for assistant.

The Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport (SJU) is located in the city of Carolina. right next to the airport there is the tourist and hotel area of Isla Verde. The capital city of San Juan is located right after Isla Verde and has hotels in the Condado area and at the Old San Juan area.
The taxi drivers are going to take you directly to your hotel and charge you by the meter.

When you travel abroad always get a quote before getting into the taxi. In PR. the taxi ride is a fast reckless ride, so sit down, buckel up and have fun.
